Signed up for this tonight. It’s in October. It’ll be my first. Quite a few from my running club are doing it. Scary stuff!
Uh oh: Signed up for this tonight. It’s... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
Uh oh
Good luck to you Tasha99 for your training for the 2019 Yorkshire Marathon, you will get plenty of advice from those monthly marathon newsletters they will send you, plenty of time to train. 😊 🏃
Thanks! I’m terrified!
If you do the training you’ll be fine 😃👍🏃♀️
Thank you. Do I need a plan or as it’s so long away, could I just gradually increase?
I like a plan as I don’t want to over-Run I’ve always used myasics ones but they’re not free any more They’re obtained via runkeeperGo these days. I got a free 12 months thankfully
I used it for my last marathon (easy plan 4 times a week) and I did well.
There are some good training plans for free. I googled and came up with Marathon Basics which was very much like the runkeeper one 😃
Wow!!!! Oooo!! More to tell your class! Amazing! Brilliant! Take care 😊
How exciting! It is great that some of your run club are running it as you may be able to do some social training runs with them.
well done you settle down enjoy your training it will soon come around good luck
Brilliant Tasha 😁. Well done - I’m running my first marathon in October too. The marathon around York looks great and was one I considered and would like to do it one day. Good luck with your training - there are plenty of free marathon plans out there, books etc. or your club can probably help. I intend to use a combination of these sources to create my own flexible schedule as I have done for HMs. Good luck 👍
Wow Tasha! Good luck with it 😁
I'm definitely no expert (currently spending most of my time bricking it about my first HM in March 😂) but I would say definitely look at a structured plan. Most plans I've seen don't take you up to the full 26 miles as the risk of injury is high. I'm not sure edging up the distance like we've done with 5k, 10k and HM would be a good idea x
Excellent - it's great being in a club isn't it? So much experience to draw on.
I'm good thanks. Really enjoying preparing for the HM but also scared 😂 There's a huge hill near the beginning (my car struggles to get up the bottom of it) and then about 3 miles on the Queensway steadily climbing the whole way - everytime I drive up there I want to cry! Trying to sort out my pacing and refuelling strategies as we speak x
I’ve got gels (high 5) and Kendal mint cake.
Ooo I love Kendal mint cake - definitely trying that 😁 Someone from my club has given me loads of different gels and tablets to try. I like the look of the high5 ones he's given me as they don't need to be taken with water.
I never eat before a run either as it's always given me a terrible stitch but I think I might conk out if I don't 😂
Ohhhh!!!! Exciting! Well done you for signing up. You'll smash it I'm sure 👍
Wow Tasha! I’m impressed, but have great faith that you’ll do it if you want to. You seem to be in a great running club, and are already a strong and dedicated runner. Go Tasha!!! I’ll waive Pom poms from the virtual sidelines! 😃🎉🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏃♀️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️
Ha ha thank you! Have you considered one?
No - I still have on and off problems with my spine, so am more than happy with HM distance. I like the idea of keeping that as my regular long run distance too, whereas marathon runners have to put in a lot more hours of training, and can’t run the full distance that often at all.
I guess the whole idea that you’re pushing yourself to do something at a level that causes damage doesn’t appeal either. I’d rather save trashing my body for hills and mountains if I’m ever going to. I want running to just be a fairly healthy regular add on! 😊❤️
Go Tasha! Well done you☺️
I just ran the London winter run 10K today. Funny really, was my best 10K time at just over an hour (and somehow did my fastest 5K time within it somewhere) but really preferred the HM race. Considering a marathon for next year maybe. Like the long and slow running but a marathon is loooooonnnng! I have no doubt you will do it though 💪🏼👏🏼x
