How are you all, this fine Monday morning? Feeling feisty? Looking lethargic? Going great guns??

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion :)

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs :)

Got some good kms in last week, although I had a phone-charging fail during Friday's long run (if it's not on Strava did it happen?:). So I've entered the South Coast Challenge first half, which I've been eyeing for a while - 55 km on Saturday!!!!! πŸ€ͺ I can get the train to the start (in Eastbourne) in the morning, and I'll finish just up the road at Hove Park. Awesome.

Not much windsurfing to report (it's been too windy!!), but "stinking pull-ups" is going quite well 😊

Wow! Rather you than me matey. Should be a good route if it’s along the coast. That’s a hell of a long way though. Mind you if you finish practically on your doorstep that’s a good plan πŸ™‚. Good news on the pull-upsπŸ’ͺπŸ™‚

Thanks MW! It's going to be fun 😊Well, I hope it's not too windy!!

Thank you!!! (sorry about the late reply!). It is very lovely - the course does go inland for a bit, but remains lovely there too 😊

Wow that sounds like good fun! Just googled it, looks like a beautiful route but hectic climbing!! Maybe you should come to SA next year and do the Two Oceans ultra?? (only 1 km more ;))

roseabi profile image

It should be good πŸ˜„

I would love to run that Two Oceans ultra... someday!!!

BTW I love the common dolphin pic! One of my favourite dolphins ;)

Go search for dusky dolphins :) we have two resident ones in Cape Town harbour that I often see, they are so small!

Oh wow, they are beautiful little things - and so acrobatic!!

I'll admit I don't know much at all about dolphins 😊

I ran yesterday on the trail. A fast 8k was called for I had been out for dinner the night before and had a German meal. It was like tartiflette I suppose. Heavy on the meat and cream 🀨. It sat like lead and I ran round regretting every mouthful Indigestion, legs like lead I’m not used to eating like this these days so kicked myself for being so thick πŸ™„

I did it though and managed to do the time πŸ’ͺ.

Going out again in a minute for a 5k πŸ™‚πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Gym tomorrow. The gym guy is upping the work rate every week and leaving me a sweaty mess on the mat. Most of it is mat, own body weight stuff, which I really like. I did use a Stairmaster for the first time last week but I had to race myself on it. No free wheeling πŸ˜ƒ I did some sideways moves with a band round my feet, which were dead hard work, up and down the gym πŸ˜ƒooooooweeeeee 🀨

back in the gym tomorrow, and running going to plan. Going up to the north east coast this bank holiday weekend. I have a 16k planned for the Saturday which might happen on the Sunday when I hope to run along the seafront towards Seaton Carew. Never been there so looking forward to it πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I hope to run in the other direction too πŸ˜ƒMeanwhile my neice and her family are visiting me with their children and are house sitting for me. Pity I won’t see much of them πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€¨

Have a great week everyone πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I did my planned long run yesterday (only 8 miles, It's a recovery week) and it was the worst run I have had in absolutely ages. Nothing felt right. Everything hurt. I hated every step but had to plough on as the plan demanded it and I'd already missed a couple of runs during the week with a stomach bug. So today I plan to go out just for fun with no planned distance or time. Just because I can. (This could still be post yoga endorphins speaking!). Then it will be back on the plan tomorrow with a 5 mile run and a spun session. Have to get this 60+ year old body moving somehow!

You 're doing great for going out after a stomach bug and doing 8 miles! Hope you enjoy your 'free' run - and well done for going so strong!

Yeah, what GeorgiosA said!! Take care of you, and enjoy that fun run πŸ˜„

Did my 8k planned run yesterday, working my way up to my 10K race in mid September. It felt surprisingly strong (for me at least, am sure it is actually glacially slow). Managed to sleep for 7 hours after that which is a very rare occurrence these days - hooray!

Looking forward to the next 5 miles next weekend - it is getting exciting - especially as I beat my first 5 mile race time yesterday by quite a lot!

It was an excellent run, well done! Very exciting indeed 😊

Hi all!

In for another busy week with a planned 50+km ahead in running and two sets of swim/runs at the Sea Point promenade pools so I can practice swimming in my wetsuit as the pool is not heated and right next to the ocean. Also its a 50m pool so I am looking forward to it (my gym pool is only 25m)!

Somewhere in between that I need to get on the bike although it may just be on the stationary bike at home to save some time for my thesis work. All chapter have been submitted to supervisors for revision and I have received 3/4 back so on to corrections now.

Also this past week I have take two falls off my bike, one into a street pole (took a curb incorrectly and bike slid out and I continued forward) and the other rolling down a ditch because my sister stopped in front of me on a very narrow path... So down I went and of course sister not helping but rather taking a photo... So maybe I should stick indoors for now...

Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to DiveMonkey

Ouch, take care! Sounds like the thesis is going well, nice one. Ooh, a 50m pool, I have yet to try one and feel trepidated 😊 I look forward to hearing about it!

DiveMonkey profile image
DiveMonkeyMarathon in reply to roseabi

I will take a picture for you :) I have swum there before in the summer but I its a bit cold for now...

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to DiveMonkey

I don't know why I should find the idea of 50m so alarming really, since I do swim in the sea!

GeorgiosA profile image
GeorgiosAMarathon in reply to DiveMonkey

Ouch, 2 dives in a week? enjoy the 50m pool, they're great, I did swimming lessons in one as a child - it really taught me how to swim! Best of luck with your thesis!

DiveMonkey profile image
DiveMonkeyMarathon

Thanks, I have never gone for a swimming lesson... youtube is a great teacher ;)

I like the idea of the longer pool as there is less stopping and turning in between laps = better for the open water swim in the triathlon

I did my long run 29km on Sunday, and will have a short recovery run today (Tues) and then plan another 32 km run later this week, then its tapering for 2 weeks before my first marathon (20, 5, 10, 10, 5, 5k or something like that). I was glad to extend my longest ever run from 23 to 29km Sunday as it allowed me to get into the "last third" of the marathon distance and get a feeling for what it's like running on "empty" legs glycogen-wise ( 3.5 hours of running and 1600 cals). The legs are not too worse for wear either! I experimented with toffee nut bars and an energy gel which seemed to work ok. I also ran with my Osprey Rev running pack and 1.5l hydration bladder which was pretty unnoticeable much to my surprise. My planned 32km later this week will also be a big psychological boost for me as the Tallin marathon on 9 Sept is twice round the HM course, so 32km is 3/4 distance or the home straight back to the finishing line! I'm going to experiment with carb stuffing the day before my next long run too (a bucket load of avocardo, lime parmesan and basil pesto spagetti), yum!

I'd love to see a pic of that spaghetti, it sounds so prettily green! Excellent running - go get 'em, Lordi!!!!

Since starting my running journey this year, second rookie lesson that just has to be learned.πŸ€”πŸ‘πŸ‘

Have not run Sun/Mon/Tues.

Certainly this time , just demanded too much from Mr Running Body.

More like with toothache/medication/extraction/ over several weeks the outcome was staring me in the face and more or less just poisoned poor MrRM.πŸ™ˆ

Other important stuff distracts you and your judgement is less sharp.πŸ€”

Funny with hindsight all is so clear.πŸ€”

Just cannot keep running towards that brick wall and hoping to smash right through it.πŸ™ˆ

Gentle build up required me thinks now.

Sorry my moon miles, pennies worth just became farthlings.πŸ™ˆ

One day committing to delivering, next day not able.Crazy self management.πŸ™ˆ

Oh well, Up and at it and plenty other lessons to be learned and bring back the happy miles of running.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’₯
