I've just signed up for the Birmingham 1/2 on Oct. 14. I've ran 19 times this year covering 229 km. Only 40 km over the last 3 months. I don't like running in the heat. I do train at the gym quite a lot so my general fitness it pretty good. I'm 47 with quite a few HM's and 3 M's behind me. I've slacked big time since Oct. last year.
A half usually takes me about 1:50. I was thinking of, trying, to run for that long to see how far I get. Thoughts?

Thats a long time to run if you haven't done much lately.
I would try a much shorter time say 30 mins and build up from there, you still have around 10 weeks to build distance up .... hopefully the weather will be a bit cooler now!
No expert I’m afraid, but why not go out without setting any goals? See how it goes. Stop whenever you need. Then reevaluate your training accordingly 👍🏽
I agree with Tasha99 . Why not just set out for a run and see how you get on. Make that run your scouting run to see where you are in terms of stamina and fitness. You can then make a plan from there on.
Hello! A massive and warmly warm welcome to the forum!!
I like the ideas above of seeing how you get on, but I also like to plan out and back routes from home, personally. If I were you, and I felt fit enough, I'd probably go for a 16k this week and then the 21.1 next week. Just run by feel without pushing too much and have a look at the stats later to see where you are with your running. Then you can get on with working on technique and speed for Birmingham.
