52 week Couch to Marathon programme.

I thought I would post this here - may be of some help to somebody :) digitalrunning.com/couch-to...

I have found myself in a bit of a hole after having about 10 months out of 14 off form running. I know that I basically have to start all over - and have tried starting C25K over again but with no real goal in sight, it has not worked well. I did do a 10K "race" yesterday using very short run/walk intervals in 1 hour 17 mins ( and I am going on 72). I have done a few 10K's and HMs over the past 5 years and 135 parkruns and have always said that a full marathon was too much for me to even contemplate finishing. But it is basically the only run I have not done so it sits there like a big mountain - looking at me!! :) I am feeling a bit down right now and feel that I could easily just give it all away but I don't want to yet - so this programme above looks like something that will give me some direction and routine. Whether I finally get to the end , I don't know - but in the meantime i start Week 3 this week :)

I think it does. A mountain to be climbed.

I think you’d do well! I ran walk my first one and did it ok. I felt fine at the end and afterwards. Glad I did it. An itch scratched!

Doing another one and training starts today

If you can cope with the training then go for it. It’s not unduly hard, just seems never-ending at times. You have to be happy with your own company for extended periods 😃

Blimey is that a race plan or the enigma code?

Seriously though I like the fact that it is set in distance (and my preferred is miles) rather than time. I can't stand the fact most plans tell you to run for time. We all know that for some 30 minutes is nigh on 10k whilst for others it could be 3-4k. So how do you know your putting in the right mileage.

I know you like the wlak/run technique so this looks ideal for you. Well done for taking this on. I am massively struggling for enthusiasm at the moment.

Maybe you need a break then. Do something else for a change 😃.

If I feel fed up I go for a slow trail run. It’s lovely and always makes me feel better. Just running. Take some pics, eat something. 🙂

Swimming or cycling, or just good old walking I would do some exercise though Don’t stop completely 😃

Been toying with the idea of changing to something else, but the reality is I have a 10k looming in a few weeks and after my last one I want to put in a good show. I think the weather is a big factor in all this tbh. I just need a bit of grit and discipline to get me through.

Hi Bazza, sorry to hear you've been feeling down. I like the look of the plan though, I'm a fan of three-runs-a-week - it stops the running from getting in the way of life, but it's perfectly fine for getting through a marathon. I hope you have fun with it!

Three runs a week is sensible plus you get a but more cross training time

Glad you're able to run Bazza.

I've only had a quick look at the plan and I like it. I've entered for my first marathon which is in October but started my 'training' at the end of January. I'm doing 3 runs a week and some strengthening so pretty much as per your plan. I'm not aiming for any time - just finishing on the same day, injury-free will do me. Like you I've done some events (you've done more than me) up to HM; I just like to do the odd one to keep my hand, or foot, in. I think this looks a go-er for you.
