18K was a practice target for this coming weekend’s second HM but l stopped at just over 13K. Twitch in upper left calf warned me and then overcompensating balance made the opposite ankle ask me to stop. I’m p....d off beyond words.
What happened? Late night on Saturday meant l wasn’t ready for my early run so had to wait. Waiting meant l moved around the house moronically without too much preps and stretches. At 7.30pm it was 32C but at least l liked that.
First 8K fine and comfortable then around 9K the damn twitch. Around 12K came the foot alarm. Walked for 5min against my “walking means stopping” rule then attempted to run but stopped soon after, red with anger.
On the plus side, hydration and breathing spot on, no issues. This morning a bit sore but doesn’t feel like any real damage was done. I’ll skip the morning run tomorrow and let it all calm down, including my mind...meh...

I spent too much time resting rather than preparing, I will be fine, thank you! Cramps are funny business, I get then when swimming sometimes, same reason. Next week I'm off to a swimming holiday and the fun part is when you swim in open sea and suffer a cramp you cannot just stop like you do when running, you need to go and figure something out and fast....
Oh crikey, I know that one! Picture it: A few years back I swam 2.5k in a Swimathon. In the middle of my VERY LAST LENGTH I got cramp in my foot, and basically had to frantically doggy-paddle my way home
Yep. And you cannot panic. Or stretch. Oh well, and the alternative would be to go back to sofa? I never liked it there in the first place. I'm too fidgety anyway.
Sorry to hear that man. Very frustrating. But at least you were wise enough to stop before injury, so you can give it another go once you are recharged. Onwards!
Yeah, things could have gone the wrong way - but they didn't I'll give it a few days off until all clear, no rush. Take care yourself, easy on those brewery/children pool routes!
Haha yes I will try. We did a 14k plus a bit extra on Sat. and even though the weather had cooled to the low 20s, we did a hilly route and every part of me was sweating by the end. Slower than I liked, but we got through it. The heat is back again this week so we will see. There is a long 16k run planned for Saturday, and if life allows, I will be there.
