1st 10k in 4 months, yay...let the HM training commence!

After over 3 months of Zone 3 heart rate training which meant not really going further than 5k and often walking to bring my HR down, I decided to ignore the old heart for a while and signed up for the spring HM group. πŸ‘

I've spent the last few weeks building my distance up and getting back used to not stopping to walk every time I get tired...I'd forgotten how challenging that could be!

After walked an enjoyable new route yesterday and realising it was around 8k I decided to lace up this morning and follow that route again, extending it a little to get to 10k...I seem to find it easier to go further when running in a new area.πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm really pleased to finally make that milestone again, and that's where my HM plan starts so now the real work begins πŸ˜‰

Thanks David, luckily it doesn't state WHEN in spring it has to be completed, so there's plenty of time yet πŸ™‚

I'm excited for 10 miles, and once I get there it's only another 5k...pfft, no trouble πŸ˜†

Brilliant! I ran my first 10k in ages last week too, so I know just how good it feels! Sounds like the distraction of a new route works well for you; have you tried any of the Nike Run Club guided runs? they're a good distraction too if you use them on an occasional basis. Good luck with the HM training!

Good job Linda, I think the mind is willing but the body sometimes takes a bit of convincing πŸ˜† We've done it before and we know we can do it again...atleast I assume you're going for a spring HM too?No not tried the Nike guided runs, will have a look πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I'm not sure if it's my mind or my legs, but something is holding me back! I'm supposed to be aiming for an ultra in May and would like to try a (slow) HM at the end of March but I have to say I feel there's a lot of 'real work' to be done if I'm going to get there. Never say never, though!

Wow Linda...that is a big commitment, though you did your full Marathon so know you have it in you. Once you've got back to HM distance then maybe the Ultra won't seem quite so far away.

Woohoo Run46, how great that you’re building back up again! I’m confident you’ll nail your HM too! I agree about finding it easier running a new route (not that I will be), and I’ll be joining you in the spring. I’m aiming for the end of March. πŸ˜€
