I just posted an article about running and working out in cold weather, if anyone happens to be anywhere where it is a little chillier than usual:

Running and working out in cold weather
I went out today as the first flurries of snow arrived. It was settling on my eyelashes π but fortunately it fizzled out . It did put in another appearance on the way back, and I put a spurt on as I could see it coming.,I could feel it too!π
I love that Scott Jurek book . I think it was the first run book I ever read. He talks about food a lot, which is probably why I like it so much π
I stuck to the local roads today, just in case π
I make his vegetable chilli often. It is probably my favourite non-fiction run book.
I made so many batches of his anti-inflammatory smoothie it was unreal. For medicinal purposes but delicious π
I try and follow his βsometimes you just have to do thingsβ attitude ππͺπ
I actually had to consult my copy today to make sure I had the bit I referenced correct in my mind (I think I remember it slightly differently in fact unless the snow running at his parents-in-laws appears twice). It is very dog-eared. As i was riffling through I kept remembering how much i enjoyed it. Might give it yet another read. Haha. I will probably be back on the ultra training by the weekend.
Iβm going to wear the balaclava tomorrow and scare off all the grumpy so and soβs who never return my smiles.
Oh miserable so and soβs. Folks are nice round me and I get lots of encouragement and friendly faces, lots of toots from fellow runners in their cars. On my trail itβs mostly dog walkers but occasionally mums with kids, dogs and prams, horsey folks, mobility scooter peeps. All very friendly. It does make the experience much more positive if folks are nice π
I think I need to move to your town!!! Sounds so good!!! I certainly scared em today. I nicked my husbands balaclava today and pulled it right over my face and scared em all. Needless to say I put it quickly on the radiator to dry out before he needed it for work!!!!
Extra layer on tonight aswell as gloves and headband. No layers were shed on tonight's run!
Coldest weather I've ventured out in is minus 10 (windchill minus 15). Very difficult to judge amount of clothing needed ( freezing on warm-up walk, often too hot during run). I tend to underdress so I feel good once warmed-up and I stay closer to home in case I need to get back sharpish. I do snowshoeing in very cold weather (minus 20-30 sometimes) and it's very difficult to dress for that too to avoid sweating ( deadly if you are out in the wilds all day).
Really hoping I can fit in my long run tomorrow when it's "only" -10, compared to the -12 to -15 forecast for the next day. I have a treadmill, but can't imagine I'd be able to run on it for over 2 hours.
Ha, I have been writing a post today about running in the cold. Well, it's not just about that, so I'll probably share it anyway
I was cold into to my chest yesterday despite my merino top and jacket. I could feel it getting through π¬I have a new bit of a road configuration and theyβve built in a windy Corner! Never mind, it looks like itβs leading to a new small country park. I so hope it is and not just another housing development. Actually itβs going to be fab if so, as it links two unlinked places. Weβve been cut off for years but are about To have our link restored via the reopening of a long-closed footpath. The opening keeps being deferred though. i think they are waiting for trees to get established
