Hi everybody,

Please feel free to share your how your race training is going and chat about it here.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If youre a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week !

Thanks Ju Ju, and the same to you!

My training has been going very well, despite missing a day to a cold last week I feel ready like Freddy! It's a bit frustrating actually, still 4 weeks to go until the Brighton Marathon. Still, it's my 20-miler on Saturday (yay, I love my 20-miler :) ) and then taper time after that. I'm on a bare-bones MyAsics plan, only 3 runs a week - looking forward to finding out how I get on!

Luckily I can distract myself a bit with starting to plan the next big thing, the Brighton & Hove Triathlon in September! My bike's getting serviced this week, and the sea is starting to warm up. I'm thinking of a sort of C25K for swimming in the sea. I find it daunting, so I'll build it up a little bit at a time...

I dropped the bike off at the bike doctor today, and I am so clueless about my bike that I was too embarrassed to tell him I was doing a triathlon :)

Don't be they will only encourage you. I did my first triathlon on a mountain bike!

Picture!

Out for my 5 miles today on the Asics plan for 10k in June. I had quite a run in with one 7yr old this morning who is oppositional, defiant and getting violent outbursts when the sleep condition flares up. Was a struggle getting the trio to school so hardly in the right frame of mind for a run. Hubs came with me as his training run was shorter, slower for him and my pace fits perfectly! He finished went off for a warm down while I carried on. It felt like I had tired legs today, why is that? Hubs had a sports massage session late morning so no pressure to complete my run then! But I took him into town and had a nice browse and got a few running bits! Lidl came up trumps with lots of gear, woohoo!

Two weeks ago I had my 7 month old pup neutered. Last night he took revenge by eating half the zipper on my expensive wind and rain proof running jacket. I'm not amused!

in reply to Tomas

Oops naughty pup. Can it be fixed at all? If not the sales may be on for jackets, time for a new one perhaps? I remember those naughty pup days well, fortunately we are in the middle aged stage at the moment. Our pups knocked over a wine rack and a lovely bottle of red broke across the floor. I had popped out and came back to two very drunk pups lol. So funny now but I was mortified about the loss of wine!

lol, what shall we with the drunken puppy? Early in the morning...

Nope, I'm afraid there bottom 10 cm of the zip are completely gone (I expect to find little pieces of it over the next couple of days when we go for a walk). So yes, bring on the sales :)

Can't you read? It already has been 'fixed' ;)

That sounds really annoying. I would not be happy, considering how hard it is to find a good jacket.

Replacement ordered online.

Shame though. He was such a sweet puppy. Not to mention now we'll have to pay for another neutering.

Interesting week. Last Sunday, as part of my Half Marathon training, I ran 8.2 miles which was supposed to be 8.7 but there was no way I could run past the end of my street and do another half mile I was exhausted and my knees were hurting. I didn't dare do the 3.1 miles on Tuesday and the 6.5 on Wednesday. But by Thursday I had perked up and knees were recovering well so I went out for 3.1 miles (5k) and did my fastest one in about 9 months. Then yesterday back to the 8.7 miles and this time i completed the whole thing and yes it still hurt, but not as much, and my knees are fine. So some progress and the half marathon is starting to look possible! :) x

sounds like good training... well done!

I have trained for and completed two HM's - and currently almost finished the training for another. These have been rare - basically one per year and, although I do lots of all kinds of running in between these HM training periods, it usually does not involve very long distances. I have found that on each of the 3 HM training programmes, that I get to 14 klm and think - I can't go any further!! But two weeks later I get to 16 klms and think -I can't go any further - and then proceed on to 18,20,22, etc!! :)

It's true! Mind you, Gnet if you slow things down you can go further. I know you might be aiming for a time but you can blow it by going too quick in training. You say your knees are hurting, which is a sign. Take the warning and steady down a bit πŸ™‚

You sound like a busy lady Roseabi πŸ˜€ Good luck with it all.

Eek Tomas! Dogs ey πŸ˜©πŸ™„. My borrowed dog ate the zip off my brand new boots 😩

I think you are right about the speed as I slowed it down this week and knees are fine so I am plodding along at around 12.20 per mile and will wait a few weeks before I try to speed it up x :)

I've only managed two runs a week for the past couple of weeks, so I'm still rebuilding my form after running so little in February. Whenever I get annoyed with myself, I have to remind myself that I also do strength training twice a week.

I finally found the time on Friday to sit down and write out a comprehensive training plan leading up to the St. George's 10 mile race on IOW in July (this is the race that indirectly led me to this site last summer). I've managed to plot in all my trips and races before then, so it should be fairly realistic.

Otherwise, the weather is warming up slightly, and I was able to run 12.5 k on Sunday in my regular shoes - first time this year.

That's pretty good going C3PO. Imagine how much easier it would be to run in a pair of trainers! ;-)

training planning time sounds very sensible and worthwhile.... and must be lovely enjoying the warmer weather :)

I did a 25km trail run on Friday (its the new long run day!) loved it but it really took it out of me compared to running on the road. Will try again I did'nt do parkrun this saturday due to my legs being sore so i was the volunteer photographer at parkrun.

On a different note my 11 year old son got talking to one of the faster parkrunners which and got him to pace him for a new PB, 22.35 he is now gone faster then me by a whole minute!

14k last Saturday and with only 2 1/2 weeks until my next half marathon I need to do about 18k this coming weekend before tapering again. 5 weeks between HMs is not completely ideal :-). The good news is that my legs seem to be aching less after long runs than they used to, so I have to try and do 14/15k regularly even when not in training for an event - that's the plan for the summer anyway.

My 10k plan has me running 5 miles at comfortable pace a few times a week to build up. My legs do feel a bit tired and I wonder if I need some leg strengthening exercises to do as well? Today I didn't feel like 5 miles but was determined once I got out. I ran my 5 miles and then carried on for a 10k! Just needed to know I could still do it lol.
