Hello Boycie,
I am afraid that at the moment, the lucentis injections are the most effective treatment for wet macular disease (MD).
Lucentis is effective in helping over 90% of people with wet MD, but sadly not everyone finds them to work.
Lucentis is classified as an anti-VEGF injection; there are other similar drugs which are sometimes used and are also injected into the eye, you should ask your consultant if he/she thinks something else may work. Anti-VEGF injections are only designed to arrest the progress of wet MD, although about 30% of people do report an improvement in their sight after being treated; usually in the early stages.

I'm kind of feeling like I am Mr 10% in that I was diagnosed with Wet MD just over a year ago at the age of 48, with the most aggressive variant of the condition, and nine Lucentis injections plus a course of photodynamic therapy have failed to make any meaningful difference. Indeed, my consultant has now stopped treatment for the eye with the Wet MD and I'm just having scans every couple of months to check for changes to my good eye, new bleeds in different sites etc.
Lucentis is, no doubt, something of a wonder drug. But not for everyone...
My fingers are now permanently crossed in the hope that my left eye does not get hit. Although, as I understand it, just because Lucentis failed to stabilise a bleed in one eye/site that doesn't mean it will not work in the other eye or even a different site in the same eye.
Thanks for the reply happygeek,
Lets hope the eye stabilisers and the other eye stays well. I have dry md in my left so keeping my fingers crossed that it does not turn into wet. As for the lucentis perhaps when I have next injection it will make a difference
