Just found this sight yesterday and has some interesting things on electronic eyewear for visually impaired people. Things that very new to the AMD community.

Yep I almost lost my head when I looked at the cost....figured like you say some maybe can cover the cost.

Although you won't get the latest electronic equipment but the low vision clinics in some hospitals can supply you with some useful optical aids. Your eye consultant can refer you to a clinic. The electronic stuff is OK if you are a millionaire.
