I have started Travatan drops nightly for ocular hypertension, high pressure in eyes. Had 4 doses so far. They are causing painful sensitivity to light overnight and in the morning. It has slowly decreased over an hour or two but until then it is painful and distressing. Will this improve over time or am I stuck with it for the rest of my life?

travaprost (Travatan) side effect
Hi nettle50. It appears that this is one of the side effects from what I've read. We can't say whether it will improve over time our not, that's a question for your doctor or pharmacist but I hope not, as painful sensitivity to light is highly unpleasant and you should notify whoever has prescribed them and maybe they will change them for an alternative. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Hello nettle50,
Ocular hypertension usually comes under a glaucoma clinic, so it may be worth contacting the helpline at Glaucoma UK for any feedback that they can give on this:

I’ve used Travopost for years. A few weeks ago, I noticed my eyes seemed to be sinking further back. I mentioned it to my glaucoma doctor, imagine my shock, when he told me it can happen. He said a doctor on NC, at one of Wakeforest’s Hospitals had reported on it. Seems if used for years, it can happen. It’s not unattractive, but makes you look a bit older. This will be discussed at my next 3 month appt.
Gosh! I didn't know that. I read about longer eyelashes and changed eye colour.
Did you develop over-sensitivity to light because of the drops?
Possibly. Last year I had film put on all my windows and door glass. I couldn’t stand the glare, which seemed to come on in 2022.. The doctor said it happens from years of use. I told him I’ve been on it for at least 10 years or more. Just almost 4 years ago, I lived in a house, with soaring windows, no blinds or drapes, other than glare on the tv, it was no problem at all. I also use Timolol drops for glaucoma, in the mornings and Travoprost at night.
Hi There are many different eye drops so I would talk to your consultant and aslo speak to the glaucoma people as well good luck glaucoma.uk/
