I have been taking Areds2 for about three or four years, after my ophthalmologist recommended it at the beginning of my treatment for wet MD.
I'm concerned about the levels of zinc (80 mg) in two pills, because I've read that the maximum for an adult is 40 mg. Because I'm 80 years old, I'm more concerned.
I also take a multivitamin each day, which contains 11 mg of zinc.
I have read on the Health Unlocked website about alternatives to Areds2, but I can't find the posts. Can someone give me an idea of an alternative pill that would contain everything except zinc?

Zinc can cause stomach upsets in some people. The AREDS2 daily formula is 500 mg vitamin C, 400 IU vitamin E, 10 mg lutein, 2 mg zeaxanthin, 25 mg zinc, 2 mg copper. Talk to your GP before taking supplements or making major changes to your diet, especially if you take prescribed medications.
I couldn't stand the AREDS2. I didn't feel good and was quite irritable. I found an alternative from Pure Encapsulations called A Macular Support Formula. Have the same zeanaxathin and lutein as A2 but no zinc.
