wet/AMD Patient Gets COVID

I thought you might find my experience interesting. One day I started feeling badly so the next morning at 3am I did the Covid self home test with two different test brands.

Both tests showed that I was Positive for Covid-19 so I called my clinic and was Rxed a super drug called Paxlovid for high risk patients. At 86 I am considered high risk for hospitalization and death. To take Paxlovid you must start within the first five days of symptoms (google covid symptoms).

I took Paxlovid days 1-5 (each dose is 3 pills). I did not self test on day 6, but I did on day 7. Day 7 and the two following days showed me as Negative (self tests and Paxlovid are free in the U.S).

The first two nights of Covid my throat felt like it was on fire, I could not sleep. I find that being cured of Covid in 7 days quite amazing. I'm sure that being fully vaccinated (2) and boosted (2) helped my recovery.

However, I was left with some "long Covid" symptoms including slight loss of smell and terrible insomnia both of which should eventually clear up. SO PLEASE AVOID THIS VIRUS !

I got it last year I though I had dodged it I expect you felt the same. Unfortunately I ended up in hospital due to my diabetes and high ketones but all was well in the end.

I'm sorry to hear this kevinaki but pleased to hear you're now recovered, albeit with a couple of long covid symptoms. Hopefully you'll be back to normal in the not too distant future.

Oh my! I too got Covid back in the early summer and although I'm a Wet AMD patient aged 90 I was not offered anything. I wonder if that's because I'm in the UK; I don't know that drug. . Unfortunately I also have severe aortic stenosis which became worse and then, while waiting for a valve replacement I got heart failure. Still waiting for the op. Treatment for Covid seems to be sometimes hit and miss. Good luck and take care of yourself.
