Eyelea problems

I had my second Eyelea injection yesterday. After the injection..I saw bubbles but then the pain came.It was very painful and my vision was completely blurred. My eye felt swollen and I couldn't close my eye as the eyelid seemed to be in spasm.I went back t o clinic and they checked my pressures and just reassured me everyone reacts differently!...The pain was awful overnight despite the drops .Today the pain is less but have had a bad headache.I have BRVO.Anyone else had eye spasm and pain??

I have macular oedema and don’t usually suffer with pains after. The last doctor actually squirted the iodine into my eyes whereas usually it is wiped around my closed eyes. This stung but I used drops for dry eyes after and they really helped. No pain the next morning

Yes I have had similar, it does settle, best to take it slowly.. I have had 10 Eyelea Injections so far, sight has improved, not always uncomfortable, but what a gain, SIGHT maintained !!! I am 80 and still active.

Thanks folks..now 2days after and it has settled.I found the eyelid swelling and complete blurred vision very worrying and the pain later was awful.Whilst I appreciate it is hopefully helping my sight the pain is much worse than led to believe it would be.

So glad you’re in less pain now but do mention it when you go for next injection. I act really wimpy and askfor loads of anaesthetic! Sometimes it’s the clamps or the way they inject but after 5 years and countless injections I really haven’t had much pain at all and my right eye no longer needs injections!

I did have problems with the iodine and now after a reaction I have an alternative. Good luck....

I’m sorry you have had this pain. I have had this five times over the past five years. Each time I was advised to go to A&E where they diagnosed an abrasion. Finally my eye consultant has worked out an injection protocol that minimises the risk of this happening again. I do not have iodine to clean my eyes, only a saline wipe, then one dab of diluted iodine on the injection spot which is washed out thoroughly after the injection again with saline. I then have Xailin eye drops to end the process to give lubrication.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice ..glad your injections are better I will discuss alternatives to iodine next time I go.Hopefully the doctor will be helpful

oh my word I am so glad you feel better and it was checked out. The blue black bubbles are just air from the syringe but the pain sounds horrid, when you go next time do tell them again so they can be extra gentle with the clip and perhaps gjve more anesthetic than just a few drops. I wish you well.

I would also suggest you make sure the iodine is washed out properly.

Thanks I think it's maybe the iodine...the nurse put some drops of it directly onto the eye before the doctor came in and did more...I will definitely mention it and maybe ask for chlorohexidine as others have suggested.

I am glad you are better. I sympathise deeply with the pain problem. I had a great battle with that. Very fortunately my consultant now uses diluted iodine on me, and that has solved the problem, as he didn't want to switch to chlorohexidine. Sending you a hug xx

Hi there, sorry to hear about your after injection eye problem, I too suffer from extreme pain as well, I have mentioned to everyone at the hospital and no-one can figure it out my last jab was nov 3rd, all they come up with is the iodine, but it's not , anyway the injector washed my eye out so much that i was soaked, my top and trousers, an hour later the pain started, it was so bad I wanted to throw myself under a bus, and my vision was blurry, I rang and spoke to the clinic and was told that the vision can sometimes do that and that it would go, and it did. I dread going now not because of the jabs but the pain afterwards. The one thing that I have been wondering about, is maybe the pain is due to my pupils beaning so dilated , that my eyelid is scraping over my pupils. I maybe clutching at straws, I really don't know. You take care x

I feel alot of people do find it really quite painful but the doctors don't really understand. The facts say it shouldn't be painful but it is for some of us. I don't feel the doctors and nurses believe us...my husband is a doctor but I feel he thinks I'm exaggerating.....I have had laparotomies....caesarian..,laparoscopies...IVF x6.....and last year I tore my hamstrings x3 off the bone....this is definitely painful!!....

absolutely right rudbeckia. I too had awful pain during and after the injections. It was brushed off as psychosomatic but that was rubbish. I know many people find the aneAsthetic drops sufficient but they did nothing for me. I get injections in my eye prior to the jag now and they do help though not always……..depends on the injector. Tested and am allergic to iodine so now have alternative and NO after pain or burning from that source now. One size does NOT fit all. It makes it worse when treated as if neurotic or just a wimp. Recommend you look up research at the San Paulo clinic in Mexico on painful injections which states clearly that 6% of those having eye injections suffer pain levels between 6 and 10. Sorry can’t give you the direct reference for website. Stick to your guns. There are alternatives. The very best of luck to you. I know how it feels to live in total dread of the next treatment.

Thank you..I appreciate the support...I'm definitely not a wimp but these are not pleasant or just uncomfortable.I went to bed and took some tramadol as paracetamol didnt help...not alot you can do when it's your eye...I've ordered an eye patch as it eventually felt a bit better closed or in the dark.I will definitely speak to them next time although it does seem very rushed.

I have the same reactions every time, but I go prepared for it to be like this now, so when I am waiting to have the injection ,( after the dilations are done) , I take a couple of painkillers so that by the time I am on my way home, they start to work and as soon as I get home I put cooling sterile pads on my eyelids and my eye mask ( one of those that has a recess inside so that it doesn’t touch the pads) prop myself up and try to sleep a little. It does help I’m usually like this and sometimes worse, but after having a review, I’ve been told that my sight is still as it was a year ago. I’ve had 17 injections now, but some people have had a lot more than that. It’s upsetting, I know, but I’ve had three sets of double vision lasting a couple of days, I’m told that it’s overzealousness on the antiseptic , also sometimes it depends on who does them. Best wishes to you , I hope it works for you too.

I think you will find it’s the iodine solution. Ask the for serious irrigation, also to ensure that they wash under the eyelid retractors. Ibuprofen and paracetamol work well for pain relief, also see pharmacist for eye gel. Good luck
