Please anyone out there with vitrectomy procedure. I had a small tear five days ago and my RS laser it but now I am left with this big floater that’s in my central vision very blurry and uncomfortable. He said your brain will adjust to it but I don’t think so. I am looking into all options since my I have high myopia my RS is reluctant to do anything further. But share if anyone else had this done for floaters only and how was the experience. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sherry I have had three vitrectomies I all.

One in each eye to repair macular holes about ten years ago. Both very successful.

This March after developing an eye infection in left eye after an eyelea injection for wet macular degeneration, I lost sight in that eye and had a vitrectomy to remove infection in Sydney eye hospital. Sight returned but not as good as before infection. Op was not done for floaters but hope this helps a little

Can I ask you how did you handle the infection. 5 months ago my wife had an infection 2 hours after Eylea shot. An out later we start using Sophipren drops, is a kind of steroid to attack the inflammation. Are you still getting Eylea in that eye?

I was given three antibiotic injections in the eye but still no sight so sent to hospital to have operation to remove infected vitreous and in hospital for four days, At one stage drops in eye every hour for 24 hours After I came home antibiotic and other drops (steroid) regularly for 4 weeks. Has recovered well but still receive injections every 5-6 weeks

So to hear that floaters are horrid but nothing to worry unless you have flashing lights with them too however they are are horrid, I have had two posterior vitreous attachments and so have two large floaters as a consequence. This happened many years ago but on occasion I still see them. It’s true your brain will ignore them and when you think about them they will be back in your vision. The operation to get rid of them is far riskier than the floaters themselves.
