Yesterday the first injection of Faricimab was given . This is such good news for those with wet AMD and those with DMO. Thus us the first drug to be introduced that is available to those with DMO at the same time as AMD, in the past those with DMO have had to wait over a year to be given the same drug as those with AMD. More information is posted in the photo below.

That is great. I wonder how long it will take before it is offered to us

My understanding is now it’s off trial you should be able to trial it as long as you fit the criteria you could ask at your next appointment. I am going to ask about it. I had to do a lot of reading about it for the NICE appraisal as I was the expert patient on it and I would def give it a try especially as it has 2 anti bodies take rather than the usual 1.

Can you tell me please how it is better than say Eylea.

Hi there I am not saying it’s better than Eylea I am saying it’s different as it targets 2 antibodies whereas all the others target just the one some people may respond due to this factor here is some more. Also there is a better outcome of the gap between injections is longer I for example have to have Eylea every 4 weeks maybe with this one I could go without an injection for 6 or 8 weeks even.

Have been following the reports in the press. I have injections in both eyes every six weeks. It would be brilliant if this was extended to eight weeks. Great to get information from someone on the inside, so to speak. Cheers everybody. Here’s hoping.

I just spoke to my ‘ go to ‘ at NICE and for patients for AMD and DMO it will be available on the NHS from 3 months after the final NICE guidance (which will be at the end of June) so we should be offered it end of September or maybe just before but still worth asking about it. The three months is so clinicians can get stock, learn about the NICE guidance etc and it is how it always works.
