Thank you all so much for your support last week before my first injection RE. Well one full week on...I had an Eyelea injection...didn't feel a thing...but quite painful later in the day and overnight. My eye just wouldn't stop watering. As I posted, the blurriness lasted a couple of days then really started to improve. Now my sight is back to normal and (I don't think this is my imagination) slightly better than before. I was so frightened of the consequences of the injection and equally of the consequences of not having it. My next injection is November 8th. On November 9th I'm due to have SLT in both eyes for my glaucoma. I have asked if this is safe to have so close to the injection but assured it is. Now I'm unsure about this. However if the consultant is hesitant I can go ahead and have it on my LE (poor sight in this eye). Then see what happens. The consultants at Kings College Hospital have been fantastic. Thanks for listening.

That's great news EthelPledge, I'm really pleased for you. I hope your treatment for the glaucoma goes well too. x

So glad your injection was painless. I know how terrifying it can be to dread an injection. You will be more relaxed now. Check out if you are Allergic to iodine which is usually put in the eye prior to injection. I had an awful 24 hours after injection till this was clarified. Like barbed wire in my eye. All the best to you.

Hi Shimano and every kind soul....I did think that as I have read this can be the case with iodine. I will ask at the next appointment. Thank you all.

Dear EthelPledge94,

Please contact us if you would like us to send you a copy of our Pain after injections factsheet. This could be useful as a discussion point with your ophthalmologist. It may be worth contacting them via their secretary in advance of your next injection, in case they can identify the cause of the pain, and put in any measures needed to try and address this.

The Macular Society Advice and Information Service is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111.

Alternately, you can contact us via:

Hi, I've been having Eyelea injections now for a number of years and like you experience heavy watering and discomfort when the anaesthetic drops are wearing off. My tips are, ask the nurse to give it a thorough washout, see if you can get your injection done as late as possible then you don't have too long to wait before bedtime. Keep the lights in the house low, go to bed early, take two paracetamol and an antihistamine and keep the bedroom dark. You should be ok the following morning. Best of luck, I hope all goes well.

Thanks for your response. Have the injections worked for you over time?

Hi, Yes according to my consultant, they have certainly stopped me eyes from deteriorating any more. I must have been having treatment now for at least 15 years now and had literally hundreds of injections. A previous correspondent was correct in saying that Iodine is probably the culprit. Try to keep your eye covered after the injection and wear dark glasses. It's unbelievable how much light hurts! I usually feel exhausted after the injection, it's like having a bad hay fever attack.

It's worth it though.

Cheers

Hello Ethel, my after pain was due to iodine, ask for an alternative antiseptic, I have had no after problem since they changed it. Don’t suffer, I did for 2 years until I read on here there is an alternative that they can use.
