My mother has wet macular in both eyes. She lost the central vision in her left eye after a course of warfarin after an operation five years ago. She is now in hospital after a fall and broken hip, the consultant wants to put her on a 4 week blood thinning injection or tablet course. I am very reluctant to agree to this, knowing that at the age of 95, and with early onset dementia, she would not cope without any vision at all. I would appreciate some advice from anyone that has been in a similar situation on the causal links between major bleeds and blood thinning medication.

On eliquis no problem
I can understand your worry, please let us know how it goes
I take blood thinners no problem. Warfarin has its complications and has to be monitored more closely so maybe see if this can be changed. I’m on Clopidogrel.
I ask my retina specialist about taking Eliquis before I started, was scared it would make my wet macular worse, he told me lots of his patients take it, no problem. So far, so good with me.
