Hi There All

I was wondering if anyone experiences any difficulties when attending the eye hospital for a scan. I have a really high prescription and it appears that each time ago they struggle to calobrate the scanning machine.

Scans can be taken which adequately reveal the back of the eye but it normally needs some one who is patient and experienced to do the job.

I advise them each time about the difficulty but they always takes two attempts costing me time, it's very frustrating as they get a person to do it each time but only after they let someone who appears less experienced try first.

One of the doctors actually wrote a note for me but the same thing keeps happening, as recent as yesterday.

Anyone else experience this??

Interested to know your prescription? I have ocular myasthenia and at times I can’t open my wide eyes enough for the scan we once and then with eye lids pulled open with fingers it’s a bit trial and error. They are very patient and I with them just glad that we have access to great machinery that gives such valuable information

Really wish you all the best. I suppose at the moment I am just grateful I am being seen at all even if it does take a while to scan my eyes.

Not sure really sure the problem you are having but I can only relate what happened to me one time. I was placed in the care of a young (very young) Chinese girl, very pleasant but totally incapable. She messed around with the machine and had difficulty in setting it up, then was constantly poking me in thee eye trying to keep the eye wide open My eyes were streaming and after 10 minutes m ore of faffing around she noticed my frustration and apologised and to my astonishment said she didn't know how the machine worked. I asked how long she had been doing this work and she said she was a trainee and when I again asked how long she replied "6 months" My face must have said it all because she went to see the consultant and then directed me to her room. I was not rude but I pointed out to the consultant that that it was against NHS protocol to leave a trainee unsupervised, also I was not asked if I agreed to being seen by a trainee. The consultant apologised and said I was absolutely correct and she would be investigating the matter but I was not at all pleased as it is part of a consultant's work to know what is going on in the department. As I work for NHS in a voluntary capacity I am aware of the constraints put upon the eye clinics and how they struggle to keep pace with the rising demands on their services, however, the matter was reported to the appropriate department and I un derstand action was taken. Might I suggest that if this happens again, you see the consultant and politely remind him/her of NHS guidelines. If you are still concerned then report the matter to your local CCG who will then deal with your complaint. One thing about your report puzzles me and that is how your time is being wasted?? If there is one thing which I have learned during my 20 years with NHS volunteer work it is patience, because we are very lucky to be able to go for treatment which is denied in so many countries, and it is FREE. Count your blessings!! Best wishes
