DRY AMD - Ghost Image

Hi All,

I have dry AMD and my main problem is distortion, which is a lot worse in my left eye. I can see quite well with the right. However the last few months I seem to be seeing a faint ghost image above what I see. Its more noticeable in high contrast situations. Its there with one eye closed and with or without my glasses.

Also it seems to go if I tilt my head so I am looking down. I does not seem to be reported as symptom of AMD. I was just wondering if anyone knows about this?

Thanks

Nick

I'm afraid I don't have a clue willnick but one of the Administrators will probably pick this up and reply to you tomorrow, unless someone else gets here first.

Ho. I have dry in both eyes..I have a similar problem like re focus of the lens from looking at my mobile phone then looking away.i also have to angle my tv so I'm viewing it from the side view to make my central vision less distorted on faces on tv etc. I seem to have this problem worse when having to put lights on after disk. I can see much much better in normal daylight.

Good Morning Willnick,

This isn't something that we'd expect from AMD, it'd be a good idea to get in touch with either your ophthalmologist or the opticians to discuss with them,

All the best,

Becky

Hello - I have wet AMD in my left eye & only peripheral vision in my right eye. I am receiving treatment with Lucentis injections. I do sometimes have repeating images in my vision i.e. after looking at something, mostly in black & white, the image stays in my vision over whatever I am looking at. It lasts for a few minutes. It's a bit like 'photophobia' but not sure if it's similar to your 'ghosting' images. It usually happens when my eyes are tired & I need to rest them for a while. Kind regards.

I have had injections for bvro for 4 years and just started with wet amd in the good eye. Distortion and a grey area were the first symptoms. If you download an amsler grid and check if the lines are straight or wavy you'll be able to see if there is any oedema 0- if wavy you need immediate treatment to prevent sight loss

I have the exact same condition as you with dry AMD in both eyes, but the left eye is worse and sadly I can replicate your experience with it. Except the ghost image is mostly down, sometimes to the right side. Like in your case, it seems to partly go away when looking right down - even the text is clearer. Had reasonably good vision (myopia that glasses could fix) before this, it must be one of the first symptoms of the disease for me (the only other earlier one was light rays coming from streetlights at night)

Hi,

My eyes are much the same now. Actually my better eye, the right, has more ghosting. The left eye has more distortion (text is wavy), but in a way clearer. It might actually have improved a bit. A few opticians have not been able to explain the ghosting, and I have not seen a consultant.
