ask and insist

monthly injections in both eyes for over 4 years now. Gradually the "after" pain was getting worse and worse . I would mention it to Doctor who brushed me off . The last 5 injections where almost unbearable, swollen , burning eyes. The last injection kept me in a dark room with eyes closed for 36 hours. I finally reached my limit, took selfies and demanded to see Doc outside regular visit. I developed an allergy to Iodine that caused all this misery, gradually causing me all this pain.

Last visit , no Iodine, no pain !so don't think anything is "normal" complain and insist to talk to your Doctor, not just a brush-off. We are humans, not test subjects !

Good for you for addressing the situation Augenstern. I know how uncomfortable the iodine is so let's hope you never get that problem again. x

Iodine is often found to be the culprit in post injection pain. With the passage of time over many injections I became more and more sensitive to iodine.

Although my ophthalmic consultant didn't want to switch to an alternative he did omit the pre injection drop given whilst waiting, and diluted the iodine used during the injection..

This did help somewhat, but I do sympathise with all who have trouble with iodine.

I am glad you succeeded Augenstern. It is often difficult to get medics. to treat us patients as people!!!! xxx

After 4 years of injections with hardly any great pain, the last one (3 weeks ago) I had resulted in just the pain and a very sore eye that ou mention & could hardly open it. The next 3 days I was physically sick and felt weak and ill and the temple over the eye was headachy and sore. The fourth day I eventually ceased being sick (I did report all this to the consultant who did the injection but he just referred me to my own doctor who gave my a prescription for powders for the sickness.) I am left worried about having another injection as something went wrong. Did they give me a different one from the Eylea I usually have. I am still awaiting a phone call from the Consultant.!!

Too true Augustine. I had similar problems and felt very unheard. It really is agonising. A very slam, bang thank you mam attitude. Treated like a nuisance if you complain. My optician was really helpful and contacted the hospital to see who my consultant was...I didn’t even know.... my last two injections still very painful but no after effects. I was treated out with the cattle run by someone who was much gentler without the plastic bag routine. Keeping fingers crossed my next injection will be under the same conditions. Was getting to the stage couldn’t face another injection. Good luck and stay well.
