Transport to Moorfields

A question for those needing to go to Moorfields in London - how are you getting there? And back? Normally I go with a friend on the Tube and come back by Uber, but am not sure how sensible this is under the circumstances. Also my friend is in lockdown a mile away, so probably impossible for her to come with me. I am so relieved to have got a confirmation of my appointment on Thursday week, but am now worrying how to do it - my husband is 92 and a chronic asthmatic so we need to take special care. I don't mind going alone, but what transport would you recommend?

Hello, If you are elderly and have medical problems you shouldbe able to access Patient Transport, Ring either your local hospital or your surgeryto find the number, It is normally run by your ambulance service but I am not famliar with how things work in London. Mloorfields itself may have what we have in my area, Co Durham, a Friends of the Hospital which is a charity and picks up vulnerable people to transport them to and from hospital. It is worth a try, but please do wear a mask or a scarf around your mouth and nose for proection. and av oi the tube at all costs. Good luck and take care

Thanks, princess - I am not really elderly, I am 69 and perfectly fit, but I live with someone who isn't, hence the worry. London is so huge I doubt whether Moorfields can cover it all, but I will see if I can find out. I was wondering if anyone had used services like Addison Lee or the like and whether they were any good.

Hi elvirakate, however you get there and back ensure you wash hands thoroughly and regularly , with soap and water, both directions of travel. If you use a scarf to cover your face wash that too at 60o.

Good you've got an appt. X

Addison Lee were always used by the company I worked for as good and reliable but book well in advance and maybe ask them what precautions they are taking to reassure you. Buses are pretty empty too but would avoid tube. I wear gloves when travelling/shopping then I wash gloves when get home....and hands of course!.

Thank you for all your tips. I am not that keen on Addison Lee - they state proudly that they clean their cabs three times a week, which is not really good enough for me, and I think I prefer the black cabs which at least have a screen between the driver and passenger. However, I am now rescued by the family - a granddaughter is going to take me (she's been in isolation with her baby) and a son-in-law will bring me back- he's had it so is non-infectious. A huge relief! And I am counting my blessings.
