FYI UK government site List of especially vulnerable. Register. Might get priority home deliveries.

If you/anyone you know is classed as extremely vulnerable with regards to covid19 go to the .gov website and register ( sorry cant seem to paste link). However, Sainsbury's has a link off their webite:

"To get access to Sainsbury's home delivery slots in the coming days, please register as extremely vulnerable to coronavirus on GOV.UK. If you know it, it’s useful to have your NHS number to hand before you start the registration process. "

I don't know if other supermarkets are doing same.

The form on .gov looks easy to complete but the list of conditions is obviously quite small and doesn't include anyone with any kind of mental incapacity

Those on the vulnerable list will have had a text or letter from the GP or NHS it’s whether you have particular cancers or taking particular immunosuppressants which make people more vulnerable also those ladies expecting who have heart issues are also included m. Age and sight issues on its own does not count.

absolutely right tallyho, sorry, I assumed by saying "those classed......." it was exactly those folk you mention who would know it applied to them or if they hadnt gotten their letter yet at least could get registered for the sainsburys thing about getting deliveries . What's that old saying about assuming and making an ass out of me? Ha ha

Im glad some folk are getting some kind of priority based on vulnerability due to their medical conditions (assuming any slots left of course!) but it's a shame other vulnerabilities aren't recognised "officially" in circumstances like these where idiots have been panic buying to hoard and shelves empty. My local asda now has a priority queue for the elderly which is great to see.

You need a priority queue for both elderly and vulnerable I am vulnerable ( not on the highest vulnerable list ) because I have type 1 diabetes. It is right that the highest vulnerable get the shopping slots as they can’t leave their house for 12 weeks and it’s just not just them if u got a letter or text it’s the WHOLE family then who should not leave the house. So giving them priority above everyone else is absolutely the right thing to do.

My wife has previously had breast cancer and also has COPD so she received the texts and letters. I helped her register on the Government web site but on the site you were only able to state that you needed assistance on getting provisions to you but not any preference as to how it should happen. You don't get any form of acknowledgement but then suddenly on the following Tuesday a box of groceries was delivered to our door. Later that week my wife got an email from Tesco offering her a priority shopping slot which we took up (Tesco had done a computerised matching of those on the Government Extra Vulnerable List). Since then my wife has had a second box of groceries delivered, an email from Sainsburys offering her home delivery and today an email from Iceland.

Unfortunately when my wife went on the Tesco website to arrange a second delivery the next delivery slot was for 20 days time.

Whilst we would be content with just the Tesco deliveries if we could be sure of the frequency for the time being we are not going to disturb the weekly box. None of this intended as a criticism as what is being done in relation to the extra vulnerable list is clearly a rather blunt tool.

Hi Alun, have you seen my other post about the home delivery of ready meals that don't need to be put in a freezer and have a long shelf life? Not for everyone's taste I know but a useful thing to have as a bit of a store if other deliveries get delayed x

Thanks for the reminder eyesright. Fortunately at the moment we have plenty of meat items in the freezer for making meals it is more the perishables such as bread, milk, veg, and fruit etc. that are the things that need regular deliveries when you are meant to be totally staying at home.

We have two sons that are available to help at the moment but as they do not live immediately local and have their own young families we are trying to avoid becoming dependent on them in case they end up having to self isolate.

My wife is certainly getting withdrawal symptoms from not being able to do a physical weekly shop as she is someone that goes up and down every aisle regardless of what is on the shopping list.

I heard today that Iceland also deliver milk and bread. Don't know if you have to have frozen stuff as well though. I know what your wife is suffering lol x JUST CHECKED ICELAND WEBSITE - WOW THEY DO FRUIT VEG MILK BREAD & LOTS MORE who knew?? Though you do have to book a delivery slot.

Also, did you see the uk volunteer site I posted from an article on the mac soc FB page? There might be someone who can do the fresh food shop for you.
