Hi,

I need some understanding where I am at with my left eye.

I did test and the “Mac” shows collection of fluid and I have distorted lines in the center of my vision when did the Amsler grid test.

It’s been one day and I am really worried.

Dear tyfab14,

Who has written the above referral?

Where have you been referred to?

Have you been given some idea of timescale?

Kind regards,

Any more help. I am absolutely freaking out I am only 32

Hi tyfab, if you're in the uk the macular society helpline is 0300 3030 111. It might be better for you to speak to them.

The timescale they mentioned here is to do with the recommended time between referral and being seen/treated.

There are many eye conditions that cause fluid in the macular and treatment is pretty successful for most but I understand how worried you must be. The first step is a proper diagnosis ( you will probably have a couple of types of scans of your eye done by the specialist to determine this - they are simple and painless). Then you will know what treatment you need. The good thing it sounds like its been caught early, your eye pressures are good and visual acuity is almost normal (6/6).

If I were you I would contact where you have been referred to and ask them when you will be seen. With info from Mac soc you can then know to relax or push for the appt earlier if necessary.

Once you've been diagnosed come back here, it's a great support forum and we've all experienced the same fears etc. Lots of positive stories too.

Its scary i know but try not to panic, won't do you any good. Sending you a hug and best wishes for a speedy resolution X

The timescale says 2 weeks (urgent)

Thanks for the positive message. It really helps!

I got OCT today and it shows fluids due to either stress or steroids taken ( probably my nasal spray!)

It’s called Central Serous Chorio Retinopathy.

Timescale is 3-6months

Any advise appreciated.

The usual treatment nowadays for CS(C)R is eplerinone. Possibly, sometimes, it's first left for a while to see if it will clear itself. Steroids have been used in the past, but not everyone is convinced their use is advocable.

I don't know about this condition sorry, but the Mac soc will have expert info. If you don't want to / can't call them you can email their helpline (see their website macularsociety.org ) - easier / quicker/more private than asking them detailed questions on here I found.

The good folk here though will have lots of personal experience to share with you so its useful to use both platforms.

You'll feel better once you know more. X

Dear tyfab14

This is a link to some information on CSR on our website:

In addition, this is a link to information on our support services:

macularsociety.org/theweek

Just to make you aware, the impact of the diagnosis of any eye condition and indeed any stage in the process is generally compared to experiencing bereavement. Individuals frequently go through very similar feelings and responses and in no set order. We do have a free telephone counselling service. We need the individual’s verbal consent in order to be able to refer them. It takes a counsellor a maximum of two weeks to make the initial call. Our counsellors are fully trained and the majority have sight loss themselves. Sessions consist of approximately 6 of around 45-50 minutes each. I am copying a link to our booklet on Emotional impact which references the counselling:

The Macular Society Advice and Information Service is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111.

If you are outside the UK, then our contact number is 00 44 1264 350559

Hi! You have been given excellent guidance by others on here. I thought you might like to hear from someone who has CSR. I am female. My first occurrence of CSR was in my early forties. I have always been very nearsighted. My retina specialist followed me frequently and the fluid went away within a year. A few years later I had another episode of CSR that resolved without treatment just monitored. In my fifties It recurred in the same eye and has been present for about about 8 years. I have wavy lines and distortion in that eye as well as dimness. I now also have myopic degeneration in both eyes. However I am still able to drive and work. I magnify the font on the computer. I hope this encourages you. I have considered medication but it has side effects and often doesn’t help so didn’t take it. My specialists have agreed. I also considered PDT but because I am managing to live with it and it often recurs after PDT I have not had it and my specialist again felt this was the right choice. You are young and I hope yours will resolve and not be chronic. Practice a healthy lifestyle.

At the moment I don't have anything's they told me to go in for PDT I've been taking ashwagandha root as well I what was thinking high blood pressure medicine no because I needed it that was part of the treatment 2 months ago but it don't work I'm thinking about a month I want to go into PDT and see how that works my symptoms are progressing little by little it's getting worse

Update: I did a complete pathology test and my cholesterol is up the roof. Blood pressure is high.

I drastically changed my lifestyle by following Ayurvedic methods, cut processed food and reduce alcool by almost zero and started to exercise daily. I could see improvement in my vision but since Monday, work has been very stressful and the vision really stepped back to worse than before.

This is definitely a cause of stress as I eliminated bad habit.

4 years later. I still have it and I now am ok with it. It’s part of me and I manage to forget it. Weird to say that when I was totally freaking it out.
