Thanks to everyone who responded to my smoking question. It would appear that I am the only current smoker. Shame on me! This would appear to contradict the accepted wisdom about smoking and amd, but it was such a small survey that it was inconclusive. Although as 25% of general population smoke, I expected at least as many on this forum ( including ex regular ssmokers ). Thanks again.

Smoking
If 25% still smoke it would seem odd that it is not reflected in members of this forum. No shame on you at all, being honest. Have you considered that perhaps some would not want to "put their hands up".
Sorry I've just seen this ...I'm an exsmoker gave up 5 yrs ago when I was told it caused my AMD
Just seen this too. I was a human chimney, 50 a day back in the days when no-one knew the damage smoking does (not 'can do' - does). Gave up in 1963 after nearly 15 years of it. I wouldn't be here had I not. It's your decision ...
I am also an ex smoker I was still smoking when I was diagnosed with dry and gave up 6 years ago and was diagnosed with wet 3 years ago.
Thanks for your reply. It must have been very dis appointing for you still developing wet amd after quitting smoking
Hi Patjo,
I have never smoked in my life, and only had an occasional drink. Never taken any hormone replacement therapy, or any other controversial drugs. No one on either side of my family has, or has had, to my knowledge, macular degeneration. I feel sure, that my AMD was caused by continuous stress attacking my immune system, plus our lack of climate change policies. So, don't feel bad Patjo, it could be a very random disease.
I'm a bit late to this! I smoked for years on and off but gave up a good ten years ago, long before AMD appeared. Found it hard giving up and could start again tomorrow, but I won't .
Sorry, I also missed this note - I choose to get weekly email notifications about postings. I am an EX-smoker. I quit in 2000. I smoked for 30 years. When I quit, I was up to 1 & 1/2 packs per day.
