Cobweb floater

Hi, has anyone else experienced a cobweb-like floater ? I noticed a few connected dots floating in my vision last night, and today these have developed into a cobweb semi-circle. I have had an occasional flash of light when I move my eye. I had a farmicab injection 3 wees ago but am not sure if that is connected. I have been looking on reliable websites which say it’s quite common & not to worry. I would appreciate advice . Many thanks

Hi Knitcat. I found this info (link below) although it may be the one you've already seen. I also wonder if it may be an optical migraine - I seem to go through periods of getting these and then they go away for several months (although those are usually zig-zags in half-circle shape with occasional flashing lights). It may be just as well to get it checked at your opticians to put your mind at ease. Good luck.

Hi, springcross,

Thank you very much for replying, it is reassuring to hear from other people. Yes, I had seen that link. I have also had ‘kaleidoscope’ shapes from time to time but didn’t know why! I’m thinking now that I’ll wait to see how it is on Monday to decide whether to contact the hospital.

Thanks again x

I just experienced the same thing, My doctor said the floaters were a broken blood vessel bleeding onto the eye. The flashes were my retina trying to detach from my eye. I have macular degeneration in both eyes but not active in the eye with the flashes and floaters. I would suggest you call your doctor and schedule an appointment to rule out those possibilities. I hope you find answers quickly

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing the same thing., cos it’s really disconcerting. You have confirmed that I have to see an ophthalmologist & will call on Monday. I’m just hoping it’s not serious & will disappear 🤞

I have both 'spidery' floaters and in my left eye (which has diabetic retinopathy for which I have injections. They eventually float out of the field of vision, but my experience is that they hang around for months. Everyone is different, so I hope yours move to the side soon. They are actually quite common.

Sorry to hear you have them too. I didn’t know they are a common factor, have never heard of them before. I’m learning all the time!. Thank you very much for your reply x

Hi, I have vabisma injected into my left eye (eyelea in my right eye) I have noticed a Web like floater in my left eye attached to a black dot, we worked out it could be a reflection of the retina & all the tiny capillaries attached to it! We noticed the scan pic looked just like it. I mainly see it on a bright day looking upwards. But it made sense of what it was when I saw the scan. Hope it helps

Thank you so much for responding, so sorry you have injections in both eyes & a web floater. My eye clinic were not interested in my large floater because it is 3 weeks since my last injection. I saw my optician today who said I had vitreous detachment & that it may break up soon into smaller parts that I might be able to ignore. Also, it looks likely I might develop the same in my left eye. Happy days x

Hi Knitcat, I too have a veil with loads of small black dots, I’m 85 and apparently it is caused by the vitreous breaking up, when you get older this frequently happens, only 10-15% have a full retinal detachment, my consultant keeps it monitored. I’ve have wet macular degeneration in both eyes. and have regular Vabysmo injections. Make sure you talk to your eye doctor about it. mine gave me a booklet for Retinol Vitreous Detachment. Nothing to worry about especially if it’s being monitored.

Hi Whitegoose, thank you very much for your kind response. I’m sorry you have injections in both eyes, hope you are coping well. I must admit I do worry my left eye will develop wet AMD too. My cobweb has fortunately reduced to a few hairs & dots, still distracting sometimes though. I hope yours isn’t bothering you too much. I’m at the eye hospital next week so will see what they say. Take care x
