Iridotomy

Had the laser treatment for glaucoma yesterday. Not too bad at all. Just a little discomfort but the pills they give you to take at home are horrendous. Have been up all night trying to throw up. The nurse did warn me it might happen. I have been cursed with a sensitive stomach all my life, so this probably won't happen to everyone. Doc was pleased with the result. IOP down to 11 and 16.

Hi Patjo.

Glad it's all over and done with for you. That seemed to get done really quickly after diagnosis. A good result already. You must be so pleased.

What on earth are the pills? That seems a very drastic reaction even for someone with a sensitive tum?

Thanks for replying. The pills are acetazolamide. Nausea or vomiting are listed as common side affect . I have acid reflux which is worse at night anyway, so the pills may have just made that worse. I only have to take them for three days, so hopefully things will settle down after that.

I'm taking these at the moment too! I've not experienced any sickness with them (apart from when they dropped my eye pressure from 60+ to 13 but I think that was more the pressure drop that the tablets) but they do give me bad heart burn, numbness/pins and needles in my fingers and toes! Etc. I've found the longer I've been taking them the better the side effects have gotten

I wonder if a proton pump inhibitor might help. I have not had the tablets but suffer severe acid reflux. Recently I was prescribed Lansoprazole the results have been magical, all stomach discomforts resolved.

Thanks to all you guys who responded. I will try everything you suggest. It is so disappointing that the elation you feel when a dreaded procedure is over, is replaced with other problems, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and I did have a better night last night. Xx

Glad it went well.
