Morning, I have been treated for wet AMD for 5-6 years. I have extremel;y dry eyes so bad that I dont want to open them at all some days. My consultant has now told me I need a 'Peripheral Iridotomy'. Has anyone else had this and is the problem caused by the injections themselves? Thanks for reading.

peripheral iridotomy
Hi, ive looked up the procedure and it seems to be indicated for a type of glaucoma ( two are mentioned, defined by the angle type) or someone at risk of such. I couldnt find clear info on the link between raised iop ( which is a stated potential side effect of antivegf inj) and the two different types of glaucoma ie if the type makes a difference to the likelihood of ones glaucoma being due to the side effect.
Best you ask your opthalmologist who said you need the procedure.
Good luck going forwards.
Thank you so much for doing that. My opthalmologist is too busy to ask questions. I saw him at 6p.m. on a Friday night and he still hadnt finished! I am beside myself with questions since I have seen it as a medical emergency. It is due to the jabs, yes. Thanks so much.x
Hi maryparry, answering your questions is part of his job - he's probably answering everyone else's hence still going at 6 pm on Friday lol. Seriously, we can find a lot of info on the www but can mislead ourselves - an expert who knows our individual circumstances can explain so much more.
Re dry eyes I can recommend Hylotear it lasts 6 months from opening though I open new after inj.
...but how can I see him again? ...As I understand it I shouldn't have another jab until it is sorted
Hi I have hylo forte prescribed but find it hard to use since yu need to press hard down on a pump whilst holding your eye open.....Is hylotears easy?
Well I find it so. I do have a touch of arthritis in the hands. With the hylotear I put my first three fingers on the base and thumb of same hand on rim by side of nozzle ( its long so nowhere near touching the tip). It seems easy enough to push the base in to release the drop. The other hand holds eye open.
I do know what you mean though, my timolol drips have now come in a horrible hard bottle I have to squeeze from the side which I find difficult and the "nozzle" is only about 2mm so impossible to aim lol. I'm going to speak to my pharmacy about changing supplier if possible.
Good luck trying the hylotear x
My wife has been getting shots in one eye, at first Avastin, but now Eylea for 2 1/2 years. The shots do not make her eye dry. The Retina specialist told her to use Natural Tears eye drops or sterilized water (store bought, not home-made) as often as she wants to ease any stinging or discomfort after the shot & as often as she wants after she is back to a normal feeling. Since either of these is OK to use as often as needed, maybe they will help you overcome the dry eye situation you have.
I use Asda's own brand dry eye drops which really sooth my eyes. They are around £2.50-£3 per bottle
