Has anyone ever seen a black upside-down tear drop while in bed at night?? My husband thinks it's demonic

I hope your husband is kidding, Mary! Do you see it with your eyes open, or shut?

If you see it on the ceiling in dim light, I suspect it is caused by floaters in your eyes.

My suggestion is to describe exactly what, how, and when you are seeing it to your eye doctor. Quite likely he or she will know what it is. Best of luck to you figuring it out.

If it appeared after an injection it is likely an air bubble that will disperse quickly.

Posts here from USA talk of silicone from the needle which seem to take a longer time.

Otherwise see an ophthalmologist quickly - it could be serious but treatable

When I first developed wet AMD, it went like this:

1. The wavy lines. New kitchen cabinet sides appeared crooked - I was ready to scold the cabinet maker! Instead I went to eye clinic as I suspected AMD. I had some nurse's training in vision screening.

2. A distorted area. An oddly shaped, "teardrop" area of vision was like I was looking through swirling water.

3. That same distortion became foggy, so the center of my vision was now a smeared blur - in that same distorted teardrop shape.

4. That same area now became very dark, not quite black.

Then I began injections of Lucentis. Results - the dark area lightened, progressing backwards - until currently I have a very slight fog and still the swirling wavy lines - in that same shape. My eye doc says that even though the bleeding stopped, the retina has been stretched out of shape in that area, and it may or may not return to proper condition. In that same area, lights at night - like car headlamps or neighbor's house outdoor lights all look PURPLE (demons?) !!

At night, with my eyes closed or in a dark room - that area, in the same distorted teardrop shape appears much darker. I assume it is the damaged area and the lack of light makes it seem dark.

I wonder if your "black tear drop" could be the same sort of thing?

I think I'd rather have the demon!! Then I could have an exorcism and be done with it! :D

It's an interesting ride!
