It's NOT my imagination!!!

It has now been only 24 hours since I got my first injection - but right from first hours this morning I began thinking that I could see "better" out of my right eye than yesterday. Probably my imagination?? But I have been looking at an Amsler graph - and just then looked out my window which has fly wire screening and I can definitely say that what I saw yesterday is not what I can see today. The intermittent "fading" ( in a regular pattern of spots) yesterday is largely gone today. I can actually make out scenery in the spot areas where there was just blankness.

great news- it also means you can monitor while you are away. If your sight deteriorates, I would cut your trip short. I have a vein occlusion like you and the oedema can cause harm if not treated.

Brilliant feeling isn't it? Very pleased for you. I agree with rosyg that you should monitor while you're over here in UK . Did you check out your travel insurance to see if you could get your next inj here rather than wait till you get home?

If you do get deterioration you need to think carefully about the potential implications. Some macular damage is not recoverable if left too long and you will have a long time to live with it.

I too have same condition and my travel insurance said they would cover my inj costs or return from hols if needed as hadn't been diagnosed when insurance taken out - I would definitely have prioritized my sight over my hols.

Here's hoping you don't have to confront the decision. Be cautiously optimistic and have a great hols . Best wishes going forward.

Interesting re travel insurance. I am with the Aussie version of InsureandGo. I already have "Atherosclerosis" registered with them as a pre-existing, which they have accepted with payment of additional premium. I am fearful of advising them of this so close to departure that they might cancel the Insurance??? I will be watching my condition carefully using an Amsler card - I note that the half life of these drugs is 4-6 weeks . It will be 10 weeks between injections for me. I am 71YO so at this time of life, the "future" has to be balanced against the "now" . I have today but won't necessarily have the future

Mine (in the UK) only asked for an extra £10 to cover MD, so it's worth adding it. I know Insurance can be a headache but better safe than sorry with this one.

Tell them. This is exactly what travel insurance is for. They will not cancel. You were not aware you had it, hadn't been diagnosed, when you took it out so you will be covered for free. It's only next time you take out ins you will be asked to pay a premium to include it. Mine charged me £7.

In fact, i was told the atherosclerosis is a likely contributing factor to rvo so you may find you're covered already!

I take your point about time but you can have both your hols and the best schedule for your inj. The worst that can happen is they say not covered ( maybe some small print but I doubt it) which just leaves you exactly where you plan to be anyway ie no inj till you get home and possibly inj not working as well. The better outcome is you get your hols, and inj, and get home fully on schedule so the time you have left is enjoyable because you can still see.

They won’t cancel. The worse they will do is exclude this condition. So you aren’t any worse off. But usually and oddly they are fine with AMD. You will be surprised. Tell them. If you are worried that they may ask why you left it so late- tell them you forgot. You are in your 70s. They will believe you ! Thing is, if you do need treatment and you haven’t told them they will refuse it anyway. I just put through a massive travel insurance claim for something else and the insurance company contacted the overseas surgeon directly and wanted him to confirm that this condition didn’t exist previously. You will have the same thing if you make a claim for your eyes. So just tell the insurance company before and don’t offer to make it an exclusion! ( if you don’t offer they may just accept it). . Then when you travel you can relax.
