Antibiotic for AMD

I am writing following a question I read elsewhere. There is someone( at least one person) who has posted on this site about taking an antibiotic on the instruction of their American doctor(s). There was some questions asked and the person said they took the antibiotic in conjunction with their regular injection and it stopped the bleed.

I have looked back and can't find the in posts easily.( It was last year). If you are here can you describe the antibiotic again and were you are and how long you took it for please. Ripifin was the antibiotic I think?

We have never come across anyone taking an antibiotic which helped stop their 'bleed'.

It will be interesting to see if you get a response from the original forum poster.

hi it was me. My doc put me on a shirt course of....I THINK ...rifadin to aid in stopping the bleeding in my wet eye. Check with your doc on this. REMEMBER it was NOT to fix the macular degeneration.

Yes, I understand it doesn’t stop Macular degeneration( wouldn’t that be nice!). It just stopped the bleed when taken with the injection? Is that right ? I seem to recall you took these antibiotics for 2-3 weeks?. There are trials in the USA at the moment with other antibiotics to see if they help too I think. I have a bundle of questions for you please...

What injections do you have and did you take the medication at the same time as the injections or did the medications start before or after? I have not heard of this antibiotic add-on in the UK and as you can see nor has the Mac Soc. Do you recall the mg you took every day.? It’s an unusual antibiotic ( usually used for TB or leprocy I think).

Did your doctor suggest any other antibiotics or just this one? How often have you had a course of this antibiotic to work alongside the injections? How long had you had a bleed before the doctor decided to use the antibiotics with the injection? Or does he/she always do that? How Long did the bleed stop for after you finished the course of antibiotics? Well that lot will keep your fingers busy typing for a while! Thanks for your help with all of that . I am Super interested. Can you reply to all my little points please when you have time ...

hi. As I remember I took the oral antibiotic alongside my injections . This was in the beginning and the treatment cleared it up. That was 4 years ago come April, no bleeding in my wet eye until Autumn 2017...very slight at that. He didn't order another round of antibiotics as the bleeding stopped and was very little.

keeping watch though.

I'll tell you what...I'll call the doc tomorrow and get the info from my chart. I don't want to spread ANY incorrect information.

I do get a drop of antibiotic in the eye as a preventative against infection after each injection. I guess if there was any bleed which there shouldn't really be it will help but not actually stop the bleed.

hi all. Spoke with the docs office. I was given oral Rifampin, what strength and dosage they no longer have in my records.

it worked.
