Just had a quickie look at some of the posts on here. About four years ago I acquired a retinal occlusion I actually was aware of it happening...pretty lights and colours dancing in front of me...oh my.
Anyhow spent a couple of years having Ozurdex steroid injections , I have had five of them at six monthly intervals. They were done in theatre under sterile conditions and lots of anaesthesia in my eye. They did help and brought down the occlusion in my macular....( think I'm getting that right) . Had two cataracts done, again in theatre. Now have regular injections for WMD ....oh what fun.
Non of these treatments have been "awful" but non have been pleasant. No one enjoys them and it's not a picnic. BUT the alternative is so much worse. So as I am maintaining my sight and am still driving, painting , reading , enjoying, its for me. I just feel so lucky to have this treatment.and all the superb doctors, research and medication that are helping me keep my sight. Lucky me , lucky us .

Hi eyelet. Great to hear the steroid implants helped you. I'm waiting on my appt.
May I ask. Were the cataracts and is the wmd you have now in the same eye? If so is there any link between wmd and the rvo or steroid use do you know? I know it can cause cataracts. It won't affect my decision to have implant as losing sight anyway so nothing to lose. just wondering. Thanks for sharing and best of luck to you going forward.
Hi Eyes Right. It is the same eye , but I don't thing it was instrumental in causing the wmd or the cataract ,that was already an embryo. It's all worth a try ,I feel they are nursing my sight along . Also like all these things the anticipation of the procedure is worse than the actual event.
You will have a scary blood shot eye but I had no big pains , paracetamol sorted those out.
it's the not washing my hair for a while that bugged me.
I've gone from dreading it to wanting it quick to get it over with lol.
Sight is deteriorating daily so hopefully not long to wait. Dr told me to chase the office if I don't hear in a day or so. Will probably ring them tomorrow.
