Hi Suejoyce

The short answer to your question is - no, not necessarily, but the risk that the other eye will follow suit is greater. It could be several years before that may happen or a rather shorter time. It all depends on how the dry MD in your "good" eye develops and progresses. No one can predict what may or may not happen. Only time will tell. So please, do not start worrying about what may be. I have had wet AMD in my L eye for a year now and there is no indication that the right R eye is heading that way although my VA in that eye is no better than in the "bad" one due to other complications. I check both eyes with the Amsler grid on a regular basis so I will be alerted when things change. I wish you all the best. Take care! x

Thanks. I had a number of injections and yes, they worked quite well. At the moment I have been placed on the regime of regular monitoring and injections only as and when needed. No doubt, that time is not too far ahead as my vision is getting more distorted again. But that is the nature of AMD. We just have to keep soldiering on and not let things get us down. x

Dear Suejoyce,

As Ayayaay80 stated, no it doesn't.

Make sure that you check an Amsler grid weekly. If there are any changes from one week to the next, then this indicates that you must get your eyes checked in case wet AMD is developing.

The best form of defence against wet AMD is rapid action.

If an individual gets wet AMD in one eye then they are 50% more likely to get it in the second eye within 5 years. Therefore, there is 50% chance that they won’t.

Kind regards,
