Hi all, today I had my 6th Lucentis injection, the first 4 left me in total misery so I asked why when I went for my 5th injection only to be told it was probably just me. To this I replied there were many people on the website complaining of the same pain and it was generally thought it was the iodine. Still no further forward I went home to 15 or so hours of misery, by the end of it I had almost decided to give up on it. Anyway I spent a miserable month dreading my 6th injection, which as I said was today. I decided I would try to explain again about the pain and the iodine, to which everything was explained to me as to why it was needed but they would double dilute it and give it a serious washout after the injection. Well what a difference that made, I have been out for a walk today with my husband, no pain, just a gritty feeling and here I am this afternoon sat writing this. Normally I would be in bed with the curtains closed now! So I would like to say thank you all for your input as to why it was happening, Happy New Year to you all. xx Sylke
Thanks to this website.: Hi all, today I had... - Macular Society
Thanks to this website.
Ask them to always rinse away te iodine really well!! I makes a tremendous difference!
I am so glad you had them really rinse it. I was in misery also for the first two injections until I read somewhere about this. Wish Drs would let you know about this in the beginning.
HAPPY NEW YEARS ALSO
Oh GOOD!
IODINE sensitivity and post injection FLUSHING is getting the posts it needs.
ONCE MORE
If you are sensitive to iodine insist on a full post injection flush to get rid of it!
Hi - just want to check on the effect of iodine reaction. My first Eyelea injection was fine - no pain or discomfort at all. My eye was bloodshot for 3 days, but apart from that it was all good. After the second injection my eye was not bloodshot, but the stinging around my eye was terrible, and it lasted the rest of the day. I woke up the following morning with my eyelids completely gummed together. There was no further irritation or pain after that. Is this the same reaction you are talking about? I assumed it was a reaction to whatever was used to wash my eye out after the injection, but didn't know that iodine may be the culprit. I planned to mention it the next time .
Yes that was exactly it, but this last injection was really quite bearable. The iodine is necessary to stop infection, especially as they have stopped giving the antiseptic drops for after the injection, I don't know if that's to do with cutbacks here or if everyone has had them stopped! But yes you must insist they wash it out properly afterwards as the pain is dreadful. Good luck.
Thanks for responding. I am given antibiotic drops to use for 3 days afterwards here. I will definitely raise the stinging problem next time. Good luck to you, too! Happy New Year.
Liverpool have stopped supplying the Chloramphenicol drops on the basis that they have little or no effect although a single drop is given immediately post injection.
At a recent trial in Philadelphia the drug Apraclonidine was administered in the form of drops 30mins prior to an injection and reportedly it had a very significant effect in reducing both post injection pain and bleeding. Apraclonidine is normally used in the treatment of glaucoma.
I had the same problem with iodine. I'm also thankful to this web site for bring this subject up. After I mentioned my concern about the iodine to the clinic doctor, I have had very little discomfort after injections in both eyes. I would worry for a whole week before injections, now I feel more relaxed about it. I didn't need injections last week - hooray - so unable to say if our hospital are still handing out antibiotics for 3 days.
