Do I need Hydroxychlorq.?

Hi fellow sufferers.

My first time here.

How do you deal with taken tablets every day and what do you take?? Is there an alternative to Hydroxiq.? Have you thought about Stem cell treatment anyone??

Hi Doha, an interesting question as I myself, dx 12 years ago, had the overwhe,ming need to throw all my meds away just after Xmas thgis year. I got so fed up of taking them all (22 every day) and wondered what harm all these different drugs were having on the healthy bits of me.

I am still, taking all the meds, and some more now and it still worries me sick sometimes

have never thought about stem cell treatment tho as rightly or wrongly I have always been very 'anti' the thiouight of it

Hi,

There are alternatives to Hydroxychloroquine as a treatment option. There are other anti-malarials that they can try, or immunosuppressants, such as Azathioprine or Mycophenalate.

I've not heard of stem cell treatment being used for treating lupus. I don't imagine it is a treatment option available outside of research studies at this time, (if there are research studies investigating this).

I think with lupus it's a must to take medication even though many of us are not comfortable doing so. I found hydrochloroquine has made a real difference to my health but it was slow to take effect and they had to increase the dose. I still battle tiredness, fatigue and other symptoms but have regained a better quality of life although life is very difficult still. I try to manage on the least amount of medication, particularly pain killers but believe this drug is essential to managing my lupus.

Hi there are many alternatives,however if your like me????then most meds make me worst;((( im desperate to find one that helps without the side effects,i manage on just painkillers ,hydroxy poisioned me,vile effects ,i was so gutted ;( i wish you luck

i am not a lover of htdroxy but all the others seem very toxic and put fear in me

I am on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquin), have been for 7 years without problems. I think it stabilizes my SLE. My rheumatologist from St Thomas' said that there are further studies being done to confirm that it improves sunsensitivity, pains, etc. If your body accepts it, I think it is a good stabilizer for SLE.

Everyone is different and you just have to try them all and see what works for you. Positive thinking is the best medicine you can have.
