After not being able to maintain my iron levels for quite a few months, I was finally admitted to hospital over the weekend for a blood transfusion. My HB fell to 6. I am hoping that this will get things looking on the up as I have been feeling so low for so long.

Blood
Hi alyj
gosh you must be feeling dreadful - this happened to me once and I needed a blood transfusion too. My cousin was recently in a similar position and they wouldn't give her a blood transfusion but instead had 'iron transfusions'.. not heard of them before .. I heard that some doctors are reluctant to give blood these days. I hope you start to feel stronger soon, will be thinking of you.
Hi Dryad
Yes I felt dreadful, completely lifeless!! I have now been put on a course of iron tablets, hopefully these will help.
I've never heard of 'iron 'transfusions', is that like iron injections? Hope you & your cousin are feeling better xx
Yes she recovered with the treatment. Mine was 12 years ago, way before I knew I had lupus. I get anemia mostly due to blood loss and not being able to absorb enough or make enough blood in-between periods. It's always been a problem since I was 14. The worst it got was 7. I'm always trying to keep enough iron in me and taking supplements constantly. It's horrible feeling so weak and lifeless isn't it? I found the tablets hard to digest, I find saches of spatone from Boots taken 3-4 times a day better. I hope you get on with the pills ok xx
