Hi

I have this all the time and am always posting about it. My diagnosis is SLE, Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis. I am not sure which it is. What is your diagnosis? I sometimes think it is all of the above three.

I start the day stiff then my legs work for a while but not as before lupus. As I get tired they get heavy exactly as if knee downwards are made of heavy lead. I have to actually lift my legs out of the car when they are bad or even crawl up the stairs at night if I feel I can no longer weight bear. Today I thought I was going to have a good day and before I was tired my legs suddenly went heavy. If I go to a supermarket I use the trolley as a zimmer frame and then wonder how I am going to get back to the car when I have put the trolley back. Do you seize up if you stand still? I find a hot bath brings some relief for a while. I would be very interested also to hear if anyone has been given meds specifically for this. The only time recently I noticed a difference was when taking 40mg of prednisolone for a chest infection. I am going to mention it to the GP next week and also the consultant and will let you know if they come up with anything.

Sorry not to be of any real help but wanted to let you know you are not alone.

Take Care.

This matches my symptoms exactly, my doctor referred me to a cognitive therapist which didn't help at all as I try to do what he advised anyway. I'm reluctant to go back to my doctor as he says its not a physical problem but a psychological problem. Don't know what to do next, do I trust my doctor.

Hello, that makes three of us so far. I even have the numbness on my toes and the burning sensation on both legs. Had lupus for 11 years now. Then diabetese, hypertension, severe migraine, claustophobia, depression, and arthritis.

I sometimes have to be on wheelchair.

Am glad I joined this forum.

Nice meeting you all.

Hi Talula

Sorry to hear you have all the same as me...do you by any chance have an under active thyroid too? (I have had that for 17 years). Like you, although I had slightly and occasional heavy legs a few years ago it has definitely moved on to another level as this is now continual. Mine also started at this level a couple of months ago after a chest infection/lupus flare that went on for about 6 weeks and I have never been the same since. I wondered if it was because I put on even more weight when the steroids went up to 40mg. I am now trying to lose weight to see if that helps.

You have had a bad time with hip replacements. Sorry to hear that. It all just seems never ending. Have you mentioned the lead/heavy legs to a consultant? I am going to when I next go. If you find any solutions that help please let me know. I haven't as yet. I have tried resting my legs up on a sofa before going out but on average two hours later they go to heavy lead again. I also think driving aggravates it.

Hope you are having a good day. Take Care.

Hi all,

I too suffer with stiff type legs. The stiffness comes on after sitting for a while/after I have been walking/swimming or later in the day. Today they have felt fatigued/jelly like and they also feel like they are tingling (does this sound strange?). I have noticed that this also does seem to be worse just prior to each monthly menstruation, though this could be a coincidence. But hey....it's the weekend:)
