I’m scheduled to have LINX surgery in 4 weeks to try and fix my lower oesophageal sphincter as my gastro surgeon believes the reflux is contributing to some motility issues in my esophagus.
I have lupus and sjogrens and am worried about any type of surgery (it’s keyhole surgery under general anaesthetic) causing a bad flare up. My lupus isn’t particularly stable, still having flares every couple of months, although just the type that put in my bed for a few days rather than hospital (last hospital stay was over a year ago).
I’m on methotrexate, and hydroxycholorquine. My rheumatologist said she’d prefer I stay on the methotrexate as last time I came off I ended up in hospital.
Anyone has any operations since being diagnosed and can offer any advice?
Many thanks
xoxo

Hi Alexia, I wouldn’t worry too much about it, I’ve had several ops since being diagnosed with lupus and commencing on hydroxy. The lupus hasn’t flared, I’ve just had normal pain with some understandable reactions to the surgery, nothing lupus-related.
I’ve also experienced the reflux and motility issues you describe (or something similar) which after my last op probably contributed to some vomiting after the procedure. Medications helped to settle that down though. Again, nothing lupus-related, just reflux stuff.
I really hope this surgery can fix the oesophageal issues you’ve been having. Please keep us posted. 🌻🌈✨
