So, I have been on hydroxychloquine for 5 years this year. I’ve mostly been given the brand Quinoric which is increasingly upsetting my tummy. I already have gastrointestinal issues from endometriosis and the Lupus meds aggravate it. I understand it’s a common issue with Quinoric. Has anyone got on better with other brands of hydroxychloriquine ?
Best wishes x

Hi BloomInUterus,I too cannot tolerate Quinoic. I've been on hydroxy chloroquine for over 10 years now and I used to get Bristol until the pharmacy wouldn't dispense due to the cost of it being higher than what they could claim back. I now get Zenriva brand which comes in a pink box and have no issues with it. I have also been offered Ipca and Accord recently.
I have zentiva as bristol labs quinoric made me feel sick most of the time. Zentiva is based on plaquenil I believe not quinoric. I feel slightly lower in appetite and get some constipation but it's not too bad. Zentiva is a coated pill too so easier to swallow with less bitter taste. I did have to do the ring round chemists every couple of months to find who had zentiva but I have a lovely chemist who puts it by for me when they get it in. Its worth trying a different brand.
Hi BloominUterus, I can't take quinoric either, I would go to your gp and ask them to prescribe zentiva, it's got different fillers to quinoric and hasn't got so many side effects, good luck, take care xx
Hi, I coped well with the quinoric but recently the new Ipca I got did not agree with me. I ask for the zentivia now but my GP said it’s up to the pharmacy if I get it or not. I email my prescription to the GP practice now and always ask for it. So far so good. What’s the point in giving me something that doesn’t agree with me. 🤷♀️
I can only take the Zentiva brand. My GP puts ZENTIVA BRAND ONLY MUST BE GIVEN on my prescription so the pharmacy has to give me that brand. perhaps your GP could do the same? 💊
I’m afraid myGP told the receptionist they can’t do that, it’s up to the chemist, honestly, I spoke to my Rheumy and told her about that Ipca and the stomach issues. She told me to tell them. On top of that she wouldn’t let me order more because the system told her I wasn’t due them. I had to cut them down to one a day till I was due them, I was never so glad to get the zentivia the next time. It let me know I really do need two a day as my skin was starting to break out during this time. I was very angry to say the least.
I don't take the drug these days but when it was needed for mild SLE it was Plaquenil and that suited me well.
One time the chemist send Quinoric and it didn't suit me at all, made me feel sick, stomach discomfort and diaorreah. I rang my gp who made sure Plaquenil was on my repeat prescription.
