implants only last 10 or so years so need redoing eventually.

I looked at this but dentist reluctant given high risk of infection since I’m on immunosuppressants.

I have Sjogrens Syndrome and thought implants would not be possible but I am in the middle of having my first done and its been no problem at all. The tooth may only last 10-20 years but the titanium post inserted in your gum should last a lifetime. This is the longest bit of the procedure as you have to wait at least 8 weeks to see if it takes or is rejected. There was really no pain and to insert the post in the gum took 20 minutes. The only thing is cost which is anywhere from £1200 to £2500 per tooth depending on the size of tooth and whether you need a bone graft into your gum first. It's not for the faint hearted or small wallet but I'm spreading mine out a tooth a year (I have 3 missing so far) hopefully I can keep on top of it. You need to have fastidious dental hygiene too to make them last longer. Floss every day and brush at least twice a day. Best thing is find an excellently qualified implant specialist (not just any old dentist) and talk it over and get a quote. It's well worth it.

hello, I cannot comment on your health issues and how long dental implants will last. I have a lot of knowledge of dentla implants as I have worked in the dental field as a dental hygienist for the last 23 years and have a family of dentists/dental specialist. Dental implants if placed properly, maintained at home daily and by a professional multiple times per year should last the rest of your life. Dental implants are not a 10 year thing and need to be changed again, this is false.

The reason you lost your top teeth was? If due to peridontal/gum disease then you will need to be very diligent on your hoemcare and professional observation to ensure you do not have disease develop around them as well. You can get implants to hold the false top teeth (denture) you have, this can make it hold in place very well so you can chew and function well. This is typically how they replace a whole upper or lower jaw with implants, not individual ones fo each missing tooth. It is an expensive endeavour implants, but worth the investment is maintained.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I have had 2 dental implants done during lockdown. I found the process difficult, unpleasant and occasionally painful. However, I would not trade for a denture as I found that completely unacceptable! I have lupus and it wasn't always straightforward but it's definitely worth it.

Hi minimum. I’m sorry about your teeth. I’m in a pickle as my mouth is very dry past few months and a new diagnosis of sjogrens seems inevitable. But I want to share with you what you can do for healthy mouth. Coconut oil/solid not cooking oil/ gargled and swished 3 times a day with one drop of oregano oil works !! Teaspoon or so of coconut oil and put oregano drop on top. Oregano is very strong. Maybe use oregano twice a week. Swish and gargle 5-7 minutes and spit it in garbage. Don’t swallow yet! Have warm saltwater ready to swish for a min then spit in sink and swallow. Use rest of salt water to swish. MrsMarigold

I forgot to say both have anti fungal anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties
