I’ve been struggling with upper spine pain which goes into my neck and back of my head. It looks like my upper spine has a little bit of a hump but it’s squishy like it could be inflammation.
The pain that pushes up into my head is also giving me really bad pains across my forehead and behind my eyes. I am laid in bed with limited lights and can’t stand sounds at the moment been like this the past couple days.
Has anyone else had this kind of spine pain where it’s affected the eyes like this?
I take tramadol slow release and I’ve had to take top up pain meds (prescribed by doctor) but it doesn’t seem to sort it. sick of being in pain and stuck in bed!
Sorry for being a bit of a pity party, just hate feeling like crap 😞

Hi Leenie. I have had 2 cervical spine surgeries so your symptoms are very familiar to me. You need to see a neurologist and have MRI of that area. Inflammation can get pretty squishy as you describe. It’s vital to make an appt. Soon. Also lying around too much definitely can make it worse. Moving, walking. Stretching
you may want to try “ yoga for headaches” on YouTube, Yoga with Adriene. It takes 12 minutes and is the only thing that will relieve a headache such as you describe for me. I practice it often so I can do it when I read need relief. I also do the “back pain” exercises, it really helps when meds don’t
Hello! I have had problems/pain like what you describe, mine was caused by disk problems (which could of course be different to you). I was treated for the disks and then had physio over a long period to help. Once mostly recovered I found massages really helped - particularly with the head and eye pain. I also have tinitus which also improves after a massage for a period. I found shoulder, front of neck and head massages (particularly behind the ears) helped the most meaning the back of the neck itself didn't need to be touched much. Physio support tape also helped for me but you should check if this is OK for you depending on the cause and I'm aware not everyone feels/sees the benefit of this tape. I hope you are able to find some relief.
hi Lennie, yes I’m getting pain at the moment, it’s my lower back, across shoulders and neck which when bending to pick something up feels like a bomb going off in my head. I’ve had a scan and it seems I’ve got wear & tear with several discs bulging which is impinging on some of the nerve roots. I. Waiting to be seen in the spinal clinic. Have a GP appointment next week to see if there’s any medication that will help. I’m doing stretching exercise but concerned I might be doing more harm than good. It’s certainly a balancing act! I find if I walk too much that makes everything start to ache/tingle.
Have you had an mri done? If not I think that would be worth getting.
last year I was suffering them same symptoms and then had temp of 40 degrees C doctors just kept throwing pain meds and antibiotics at it had three lots and they did nothing to help then ended up not being able to sleep more than couple of hours most nights after two months, I had digestive issues as a result of antibiotics cocktail!
I went to see a physio specialist who investigated and advised GP I needed nerve medication amitriptyline to help then after MRI they discovered I had spinal nerve root compression but decided not to operate on it as private spinal consultant believed more was going on.
I was then tested for lupus and told I have Lupus, connective tissue disease and raynards/Sjogren. Currently on low steroid dose to reduce inflammation which helps and gluten free diet.
This is how I know I am having a major flare up of my UCTD- pain meds do not solve it even slow release morphine tablets or liquid morphine - the only thing that stops it for me is to take 10mg of Prednisolone (steroid tablets) on first day it knocks back pain a bit, on second day acute pain dulled to bad aching and by 3rd day feel significantly better. My GP gives me Prednisolone on prescription for such flares that happen to me about once a month/every 6 weeks. I only take for least number of days possible - if catch it early enough can get away for only taking 10mg Prednisolone for 2 days - if really bad might have to take for 3 or 4 days. Hope this helps you as this has made a major difference to my quality of life. Know how bad pain is as I have ended up in A&E before now as pain so unbearable. My Rheumatologist is happy for me to manage flares like this. Hope it helps you!!
