Hi everyone,

I'm noticing that I am losing weight (so far 3kg/6lb), and that got me wondering how it might affect the effectiveness of my Fragmin, given that it was dosed according to my weight from 3 months ago.

Any thoughts or experience on this? Thank you x

If your concerned I would contact your GP/ consultant to check if your current weight loss will impact the length of time you are taking fragmin?

I’ve not long finished a course of fragmin after surgery. I’m now slowly loosing weight as I’m more mobile than when I was initially recovering.

My resident medical team (nurse and emergency medicine practitioner daughters) who use it all the time say:The dose comes in wide bands linked to your weight. The loss of weight may leave you in the same band where it would be the same dose anyway or it may take you just over into the next band - so initially there isn't a great difference. If the weight loss is massive and very fast then it might take you another band and need adjustment.

It also depends whether you are taking it prophylactically (i.e. reducing the risk of DVT post surgery) or therapeutically (to combat a clot). Either way, it might increase the effect marginally - still keeping the clot risk at bay.
