I have tested negative for ANA but have a lot of lupus symptoms! Mainly headaches, joint pain, face rash - only on cheeks in butterfly shape (pic attached) fatigued and slight hair loss.
Has anyone got a lupus diagnosis with negative ana?
Thank you

Hello Cloelouise, Positive ANA might come later with the increased lupus activity… I had a diagnosis earlier before ANA positive.., hope this helps… with best, Lale
Hello. It’s difficult enough for physicians to diagnose and we are not them! However,I would say it would be important for you to try for a Dr appointment during a flare. A flare is a time in which you are totally
Symptomatic. Most have a rash or rashes, mouth or nose ulcers, extreme fatigue and
Very bad joint, body pain. Also, it may be worth your while to go to a dermatologist
And ask about rosacea and perhaps have a skin biopsy. On the road to my own diagnosis I was concerned about my hair loss. It was not just a little, I think I carpeted an entire bedroom with my hair🙃 the Derm biopsies my scalp. The DX was atrophy of my scalp. She told me usually lupus is the culprit. I wish you luck for

I am in the same situation- i have hair loss mouth ulcers, pain, fatigue, headaches, rash but negative bloods. I have been told i have an undifferentiated connective tissue disorder with characteristics of lupus. I have had all the bloods done again few months ago waiting to see if anything changes. Had what i think was a flare-up and my ESR when high so need to feed this back to my rheumatologist. I have been put on hydroxychloroquine which has helped a little but has plateaued in effectiveness x
Hi Cloelouise,
An ANA test only confirms whether or not a person has an autoimmune disorder, it does not confirm if a person has lupus. dsDNA antibodies are very specific in people with lupus, as they are not typically seen in any other condition or in healthy population, however only approximately 60% of people with SLE will test ‘positive’. Therefore if someone is positive for these antibodies, it often means they have lupus, but if they are negative it does not necessarily mean they do not have lupus.

Hello Cloelouise. The blood tests are to help with diagnoses and autoimmune disease can be pretty sneaky, they may take all the findings they need to decide on the best course treatment for you, I hope you get the help you need soon.
