Rheumatology Appointment

Hi - I’m in the process of being diagnosed and posted a few weeks back, my Rheumatologist has booked an appointment for me to have an ultrasound prior to having a steroid injection, is this usual? At my last appointment they wanted to give me a steroid injection to see how I responded as I have the malar rash which hasn’t settled down since it appeared october last year, joint swelling and lots of other symptoms, but they decided against it as I had a cold sore and they were concerned about my immune system being compromised. They’ve also mentioned about starting me in hydroxychloroquine, I guess I’m just wondering what will happen next - my appointment isn’t until next month - thanks

Hi steroids help boost the immune system during a flare up which it would appear you are in.I have been on hydroxy and a few others meds for my lupus sle for some years and they do help balance an overactive immune response once they find the right balance for your body. It is a lot of meds but a lot of help also. I have to have immunosuppressants , steroids and hydroxy to help me but it does give you some help to live a better life in the long run. Good luck keep the faith and ask questions at appointments don’t let them intimidate you or leave you wondering it’s your body and life ! 🤞🌈
