Hello fans and supporters of all my crazy endeavors!
I completed β the Foot Traffic Hop Hop 5K and did not die or require medical intervention of any kind ππ€£π
It wasnβt pretty and it wasnβt fast. I did walk about 40% (almost all the inclines and anything that had uneven ground with tree roots etc). I am still happy to have completed it, since it is the farthest I have walked/run/crawled (you get the idea) in over two years. My hips were complaining a bit towards the end(canβt blame them either the extra weight Iβve gained from meds changes), but I did okay ππΌ. Weβll see how it shakes out in the morning.
Next stop, 4th of July Flat 5K at Sauvie Island. Maybe I can run that one. They say it canβt be done with SPS. I know there have been 2 marathon/half-marathon runners with SPS, I plan on being #3. There is only one degree from impossible to possible!
Thank you all for the encouragement πͺπ½ππ

Yes! Thank you Stiff! I did indeed. I sweat like a little piggy π· afterwards and memories came flooding back of races past πππ½ββοΈππ½ββοΈπ π
I had my doubts after the last months long flare and little training. But, I persevere and...
Sweat little piggy π· sweat, worth it π you must be very proud , as well you should be, such an achievement, I never doubted you, other than being well enough, your mental strength serves you well. Enjoy that coffee, hopefully see some dragon boats and rest and recooperate π π€x
ππ thanks. Today I get to go celebrate by going to my favorite coffee place (Jet Set) to patronize some of my favorite small business owners, brothers Seth and Travis, for a celebratory coffee before taking my daughter for yet another duel with Womenβs Health. Sheβs taking her βAβ game. I will drink my coffee from the aerial tram viewing deck in the e sunshine until sheβs done. I think I can get into to e hospital that far these days anyway. That way I can get a view of the river and the city skyline and maybe even some dragon boats π£ββοΈ while sheβs gone. At least it isnβt my appointment π
Thank you so much daisydayz! I try! I have to keep this olβ machinery moving or Iβll turn into the Tinman and forever be stuck. I have already had some episodes like that so I move my caboose when I can.ππ
You bring about what you think π€ about! The mind is a powerful thing! Honestly, I didnβt train much at all as fair as running ππ½ββοΈ for this because of the severe flare (exacerbated/caused by anemia, Shingrix reaction, meds changes, and my SPS). I did do my PT stretching everyday and practiced breathing exercises to improve cardiovascular π« and train my Bahaβi response to tamp down. (SPS has an unrealistic anxiety of failing and being in open spaces so we are hyper responsive to places without rails, road crossings, noises like backfires or jake brakes etc. Those types of things can trigger immediate spasms and send us into an emergency (sometimes even laryngeal spasms that cause airway difficulties). After 44 years of running, I Beas hoping my body could rely a bit on muscle memory (what pitiful amount of muscle remains π€£π€£π€£π€£) Voila! It apparently worked. The only other time I ran at all was on 3 April. All of the rest were just walks, and only a few. Letβs me know how much the SPS truly affects me. I just one ginormous science experiment π¬! Iβll just be the next generation of the bionic woman π
Thatβs pretty impressive - to overcome all the issues you describe and complete the distance! You have truly demonstrated a case of mind over matter - it can be done! And yes, the mind is a powerful thing, let the physical bod believe it can do these things and it will! Looking forward to reading the results of your next experiment, Jamie Sommers! πππππ€ππ€
You go girl!!! And it was pretty and it was fast. We only think in terms of what we as individuals are up against here. And your accomplishment brings tears to my eyes.
Amazing! What a feeling! I've had a week off running when I was close to reaching my 5k goal, went back yesterday and struggled to do 2k. You've inspired me to keep going! Amazing! Xx
Yes- keep going! Donβt hurt yourself. Always listen to your body in the process, but stick with it. The run never takes more than it gives! ππ½ββοΈπ¦΅π»π«π«π§ πβ€οΈππͺπ½π
Thanks. I donβt know about looking fresh (I certainly didnβt smell it, unless youβre looking for something other than a daisy π) Next race 4th of July.
Good luck with the next race D. Iβll remember the date being American Ind Day and more importantly the day before my birthday. π Let us know how it goes. Iβll be cheering for you. πββοΈπββοΈ Spotty
Awesome! I think you are amazing! I am starting to get back into exercise tomorrow (freak snow storm today...so weird) after a hard time with several blood clots on my lungs. But I am determined to get back to walking and hopefully prevent more clots in the future. A little nervous to go out on the trails though. Been having episodes where I get dizzy and fall down. So embarrassing, but I need to get over this anxiety and the blood pumping again. Thank you for this post! Congratulations for completing the 5K!! πͺππ
I know what you mean about anxiety of getting out there. Part of my disease, Stiff Person Syndrome, has an anxiety component regarding open spaces and crossing streets, or places where we can fall. I have had several severe falls in downtown areas/streets that have required stitches or medical care afterwards.
I had already missed the Shamrock βοΈ Run last month because of a flare. I wasnβt going to miss this one. Iβm not going down without a fight! I encourage you to do what you can, when you can. Embolisms are nothing to mess with, so make sure you are cleared to do so. Once you are, go for it!
I have decided to start getting back to fitness. Bought some new sneakers and some cute leggings. Going to walk at first (still out of breath easily from the pulmonary embolisms, which are still there), but hoping to work my way to jogging. Thank you for posting your run/walk! I am excited to start! πͺπ
