Hi everyone, a few people posted recently they were applying for ill health retirement , i would just like to know how many years back do occupational / optima health need to access your medical records. I have things on my records going back 10 years which i don't want them to see. My union rep said they only go back 2 / 4 years through your records as they want to see your recent health issues. If anyone can clarify this i would be very grateful, thanks

Hi. It is definitely best to give them as much info as possible. But they only need evidence for the conditions you are applying ill health for. If you have a report that says you look and feel great and you are loads better that appt, then do not add that 1.

I know how you feel, I sent some embarrassing stuff, however it was worth it in the end.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi Londongigi,

When I applied for ill health retirement I had worked for the NHS and the manager of my last job first had to fill in one part of the application form regarding the reason why I can no longer do my work and I then had to take the forms for my GP to fill in the rest regarding my medical diagnosis and whether this diagnosis will prevent me from doing my job in the future.

My GP posted the form to the pension department and he never went back to past medical diagnosis that was not revenant to my present situation.

I was then sent a copy of what my GP had written and based on that I was given my pension for early retirement.

All the best.

HiI was unfortunately forced into medical Retirement by the Inland Revenue at the age of30. I didn' need to do anything but, I was on long term sick & fighting to keep my job.

If you are worried about how much information they will want ask them & tell them that you don't want them to see private information and then speak to your GP & tell them that you don't want them to send certain information as feel it is too private for others, & it will cause you great distress.

I hope that you get it all sorted out.

Hi Londongigi

Sorry to read that you are aren't feeling well & off work sick, I know what you are going through. I was exactly the same, stress of 5 years probation caused me to have constant flares until I had a serious flare of what I now know was a stroke. Please talk to your GP, Rhuematologist nurse or Occupational health at work or the stress could cause you a really bad flare.

Take care and try to rest.

Hi cal66, thanks for your reply. I have finally got a rhematology app for next wednesday via video chat , i've had all my previous face to face appointments cancelled due to covid. I'm going to run everything by him and occupational health will be phoning me next week to see how i got on , i will keep you posted, thanks for your concern and advice x.
