LUPUS UK is working with Chronic Creatives, a disability organisation, to present a short series of workshops about disability benefits each Saturday from 27th February to 27th March 2021.

The workshops intend to help people with lupus learn about disability benefits they may be eligible to apply for, as well as, learning the most suitable way to apply for this aid.

Each workshop will consist of a 45-minute presentation, 5-minute comfort break and 10-minute Q&A session where attendees can ask questions via Zoom’s chat feature.

This is brilliant and such a positive step for Lupus UK to make. I wonder if there is going to be any discussion of the additional things you can apply for once in receipt of these benefits? I often think this is where information falls extremely short and there is no definitive list available for people to know what they are entitled to. Moneysavingexpert has a good starting point and may be worth directing people to, if the speakers are unable to discuss these things.

For example if you get PIP, then you can apply for a free bus pass, cinema card for £7, free carer ticket at events and attractions etc. If you get both PIP and another benefit (tax credits or ESA etc) then you can get warm home discount which is worth £140 per year. The list goes on, but it really does make all the difference to quality of life on a budget.
