Vitamin D can help, especially if you are staying out of the sun. Best wishes

It's good to know what to take but it's also good to know what to NOT take. Vitamin D is important as Kevin said. That is the key one.

Too much Vitamin A is not good for you as it is metabolised by the liver and too much of it can stress it out.

Fish body oil is supposed to help according to some but avoid Cod Liver Oil as its basic oil from a cod liver and the liver filters the toxins so that can also put a strain on your liver. And please, please stay away from any Chinese medicine. I've had accupuncture and it's great but Chinese medicine is to be avoided.

All of the above info comes from my experience in working on a transplant unit years ago. A good diet should provide you with all the vitamins that you need. However, are you familiar with that phrase "you are what you eat?" Well it's only half true. It should actually say "you are what you absorb." Gut health is really important and is a bit of an information overload minefield. But if you read up on the gut biome. That should shed some light that might help.

They started some research at the JR in Oxford last year to look at it.

Hi shaney2510 ,

It is best to seek guidance from your consultant before starting any vitamins because some may have unexpected reactions with lupus or interactions with medications . It is generally best to try and get any vitamins through your diet too. You can read a bit more about this in our article here - lupusuk.org.uk/diet-and-hea...

Hi Shaney

My Rheumatologist has said to me that anyone with Lupus should be taking Vitamin D 2,000 iu per day (high dose) as well as Omega 3 fish oil 1,000 mg per day.

Hope this helps xx

Thankyou yes that really helps! I was taking the vitamin d so I need to get the omega 3 fish oils. Do you have any recommendations on the omega 3 fish oil brand or will any brand do!

I don't think the brand really matters more dosage as they are quite high, therefore can be difficult to buy from a 'normal shop. I buy mine from Holland & Barrett when they have the 1p offer on. My Rheumatologist said you can get them reasonably on Amazon but I just don't like the idea of buying stuff like that from a source I don't know xxx
