Quirky side to fatigue

Hi everyone

Surprise, I've got fatigue amongst other things and it's the first day of possibly, a slow and joyful [insert sarcasm] decline into the weekend. Whilst trying to embrace the positive side to this glorious, joyful and reoccuring event, it suddenly occured to me that I always have an unusual craving during this period, which is - wait for it *drum roll* - tonic water. Ice cold plain tonic water. For some strange reason, it makes the entire experience more soothing and the fatigue, of course this is psychological, does not last that long.

I even told my Rheumatologist about this and he immediately went cross eyed and exclaimed, 'Erm.....I don't know about that one'. Neither did I but I thought that maybe, just maybe, ...I could make a fool of myself. Alas, in that moment, I realised it was just purely a strange / weird craving. Nothing else. Nothing more other than that.

Do you have any unsual cravings or habits during your fatigue flare(s) or am I all by myself with this one and like my Rheumatologist, you've gone crossed eyed as well?

Some of my flares have renal involvement - then I notice I crave more protein foods and water. Sometimes I get a day or two of a low mood as part of the pattern of the flare and then I crave carbohydrate/sugar (who doesn’t!).

Oh bless you! You're right, who doesnt crave carbs and what do they always say during a flare, stay away from it lol. Always, the way.

And funny enough, isnt protein food and water essential for the kidney? If so, that's good that you are listening to your body's language, so to speak. Interesting..

It does seem to give me a little boost, temporarily, but maybe I just imagine this!! Anyway, I tell hubby it helps and he believes me - shuuush!

They use Hydroxychloroquine to help us, this is used for Malaria treatment. Tonic water used to be used for Malaria as it has quinine - so your body must be telling you eh? DRINK IT and enjoy

Aha and thank you. How interesting. From now on, I will hold my head up high once I'm let back in the tonic water aisle at the supermarkets. I'll also quote your response to my Rheumatologist as well.

Thank you so much and apologies for the delayed response.

Stay safe x
