Eden Spence, freelance writer, and university student is looking to submit an article entitled ‘But you don’t look sick: What does it mean to live with an invisible disability in our image-orientated society?’ to the ‘Identity’ issue of Extera Magazine and is looking for 3 to 4 women (aged 20-35) to share their experience of living with invisible diseases and disabilities.
The article aims to problematize social attitudes towards invisible diseases and disabilities.
Questions likely to be asked to participants include:
1. Do you feel pressured to hide or accommodate your condition according to other people’s perception of you?
2. Do you think people treat you differently if/ when they find out you have an invisible disability? If so how, do you remember any particular instances?
3. Do you remember any particular instances of someone challenging the legitimacy of your condition based on your outward appearance?
4. Do you think there needs to be more education/ support regarding invisible disabilities? If so, what?
If you fit the criteria and are happy to contribute towards the article, email me at Chanpreet@lupusuk.org.uk. Please confirm in the email if you permit me to pass on your email address to Eden.
Thank you.
